We are sailing on Riviera in May. On the second night of the cruise we are celebrating our 50th anniversary. Thinking about reserving Jaques for that night, now wondering if something special will be happening in the main dining room. Thank you

Perhaps best to check with your Travel Agent or O if you booked directly.

I recall that on these nights the GDR menu is slightly more special as well, such as caviar/foie gras appetizer and maybe lobster main. That may be what OP is asking about?

However, there seems to be a lot of complaints about the GDR experience lately so who knows how special the special menu items would be...

Would go with Jacques as a little more intimate than the Main Dining Room, but as noted, the Main Dining Room often has it's best food on the second night of the cruise.

Where would you get the idea that the MDR has the best food? Not by a long shot. On any night. As noted by most people.

The GDR is more crowded, especially after 7:30 on the night of the Captain's cocktail party. People spend a long time with the free drinks in all the bars, then expect to be seated and served in the normal time frame. GDR just can't handle that mass of passengers at one time - watch those complaining because they can't make a show or whatever when they are seated after 8PM.

Read the prior comment again ... poster said GDR often has ITS best food on the second night, not that it has THE best food.

I am one who never has had a bad meal in the main Dining room, many excellent and several outstanding experiences...Jaques is nice too as in Polo or it used to be. ...Maybe people expect too much or love to complain.

Food is all relative to ones attitude. I can be just as happy at a burger joint as I can at a Michelin *** in Paris or Lyon.

There is only one who makes you pleased or not...that's you....

Book Jacques. The main dining room imo is a large catering hall. You will have a much better celebration at Jacques.
