John Scott is on vacation right now. He is assigned to the Eurodam. It was Pieter Bos who retired at the end of April[/quote

Yes. :) My comment was about Captain Scott being the take out Capt ain for Noordam. And someone above reported he is on vacation.

Heel veel dank Copper , for this updated list of Captains . Back on shore for a few months ?

Have a well deserved break . With three exiting cruises in our future I was wondering who was where .

Is that the full last name of the new Captain Friso ?

Bedankt/Thanks Tony! With a (multiple) surname like new Capt. Friso, I would think there is some nobility in his family from a while back

Copper, do the Seattle based Captains need to sail periodically to maintain their credentials? I think the only one I have sailed with is Rik Krombeen on my first modern HAL cruise (Rotterdam TA in 2011)

Thanks

Roy

Morning Roy, I have never seen one come back to the ships for that purpose. Out of that group. Capt. Schoonderbeek and Capt. de Boer are at sea the most (for different reasons) but not to stay current. A real good question to ask Capt. Schoonderbeek on his blog. Just as an FYI, Capt. Simon Douwes (as 4th officer) was part of Capt. Cornelius Wabeke's staff at the time the engine room fire broke out on Prinsendam I on 04 Oct 1980 while she was in the Gulf of Alaska enroute to the Orient. Capt Douwes was also our first HAL captain on Nieuw Amsterdam as passengers in November 1993 with Capt. Fred Eversen as chief officer (staff captain) Edited by Copper10-8

Currently we have Captain Friso Kramer Freher on the Zaandam, he just boarded when we did. I think he said that after South America, he will move to the Amsterdam.

He got us into Anchorage at what must have been low tide, so he's doing well!

Enjoy Anchorage and Zaandam Ann! Capt. Friso was one of two long-time (six years plus) staff captains on Amsterdam prior to going to Volendam, still as staff captain

Have been told that the captain on the Nieuw Statendam will be Captain Sijbe de Boer

But whom?

Captain Albert in his Blog several days ago indicated that one of the original Masters of the Koningsdam was currently stationed at the simulator/training center for Officers in the Netherlands and the other gentleman was at the shipyard in Italy. I presume this gentleman will be the Nieuw Statendam's Master. But, who is this gentleman?

Captain de Vries was the take out Master of the Koningsdam. Will he join Captain Edward G. Van Zanne, as a present day HAL Master, who has had the "joy" of bringing a new ship "to life" for Holland America Line?

Yes, it now appears that Capt. Sijbe de Boer, until recently HAL's "Fleet Captain" (Corporate Marine Quality Assurance), has replaced Capt. Darin Bowland as Nieuw Statendam's take-out captain

I hope that "take-out Master" sounds better in Dutch than it does in English, or that is a poor translation, 'cause I too keep thinking of someone who creates gourmet meals from room service platters.

We call them "Plank Owners".

I always thought "plank owner" was a Naval (as in military) term ;)
