On BA headed to NY Captain changed course for another storm

Thank you ... curious, what are current conditons onboard the BA ... as shown on ship's Navigational Channel 21 ?? Headings/course, ship's speed, wind speed/direction and wave heights as shown - snapshot pictures would be helpful for folks to understand what's ahead.

From the marine data & ocean wave height charts, not seeing any "static" info of rough seas or waves out of the ordinary ... nothing more than 10' to 15' wave height for its usual return path/track from Caribbean to NYC, from what I am looking at (see below). If it is windy & storm is moving out into the Atlantic later today (Thursday) & crossing path with the Breakaway, then, of course - the Captain & the senior officers on the bridge has the latest, real-time weather & radar data on their instruments.

If ship is changing course to stay away from another storm, is it sailing further out east around/toward Bermuda now ... going westward closer toward the coastal water - this time - isn't going to help, IMO. But, let's just say - given the size of the ship, even 15' waves aren't going to be a major concern, especially for those with mid-ship staterooms on the lower decks.

Going to eye the live ship/webcam in the morning with daylight to take a look at sea conditions & waves. As FYI for others - Cunard's Queen Elizabeth was at MCT (NYC) earlier & sailed, southbound earlier - on her way down to Florida - last AIS position tracked to off the waters of Atlantic City, doing about 18 knots - should be very interesting to check out the ship's live webcam.

Good morning Mking. Looking at webcam - cloudy and waves look pretty minimal.

Just posting to inform this is no where’s like the storm that this ship went through 2 weeks ago, she still has damage from that storm and I believe the captain made the course adjustment as not to drive right threw the middle of this one. She is rocking but all is good I would think we should make it to NYC on time but will update after the captains announcement this morning a387724a4baa8cbef4644b47a6d54bd8.jpg

Norwegian Breakaway Update - January 18, 2018 at 2:15 PM ET (6:15 PM UTC)

At Norwegian Cruise Line, the safety and security of our guests is our number one priority. Due to a strong weather system that is moving across the eastern United States, Norwegian Breakaway will be slightly delayed in returning to New York. For their comfort and safety, embarking guests for Norwegian Breakaway’s cruise departing on January 19 should plan to arrive at the pier between 4 – 6 pm. Any further updates will be posted to ncl.com.

Thank you for sharing & posting - tgloersen and davy jones with the updates/latest news. Sorry to hear about the delayed arrival - what a bummer.

Been trying to keep track of you folks during the day ... heads up, might want to hold on to those railings while roaming the ship, using the stairs, for a little while longer, per latest "static" ocean waves chart that I just looked at. This morning, nothing to be of concern, 10' to 15' waves and ship's webcam pretty much validated that, maybe at times a little higher - but, fairly "normal" & routine for crossing the weather fronts, the highs & lows, etc. And, the winter storm that smacked the South & Mid-Atlantic states was moving slower than expected, here in NYC - dry & temps in the 20's.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth sailing south to the Port Everglades seemed to be running into slightly worst weather, a bit stormy with choppy seas. Sharing snapshots I kept - uploading 3 sets.

Take a look at the weather chart with *-C with shades of green/yellow - that looked to be the course/heading ... the BA is heading toward, going around and/or slowing down to stay behind, to not sail into the storm's direct path. That wasn't indicated on the chart 6 to 12 hours earlier today, so ... have faith & trust in the Captain & officers on the bridge, as we always do.

It's the winter & battle against mother nature - hopefully, those onboard with ground transportations & flights to catch ... most likely, if not definitely delayed beyond scheduled arrival into NY tomorrow - are insured and not "self-insured" against the risks. We will be on the lookout for BA's safe return to homeport tomorrow & track the ship once it's within AIS radar range ... in the morning. Ship's live webcam now - before it fade out due to sunset - appeared to be in 10' to 12' sea and small white caps.

Well, one thing seemed fine ... among others, BA's satellite (WiFi) internet - working thru these storms & allowing communications to go back-n-forth, agreed or not Dexddd. Of course, faster & less pricey is what we all wished for.

It is interesting that the Anthem of the Seas, which was also scheduled to turn aroudg (in Bayonne) tomorrow, is already in, about 10 hours early, due to an urgent medical case on board. She got in around 8:30 PM, and will spend the night, with normal debarkation in the morning....

Here you go, captain made an announcement around 1900 confirming a 12 noon arrival. Below is our current position map as of 2300 we are west of Washington DC

Hope you're east of DC, or it's going to be hard going churning through the mountains. :D

Why is this interesting? With a medical emergency she would've been in port regardless of the weather the Breakaway is in.... sunny and calm or hurricane.... on time arrival or 6 hour delay.....

Good morning to those onboard the BA, and CC'er following - sea is looking calm this morning & ship is south of Ambrose Channel ... passed Asbury Park, NJ now - around 12 knots, almost home as she will turn soon for Lower NY Bay - in sight of land.

Probably sailing up the Hudson in another 2 to 2.5 hours and "should" be docking before 10:30 or 11 AM, later than scheduled but ahead of the revised 12 noon time ( ... flights, train & bus connection originally scheduled, probably not going to catch up.)

,

Welcome home, 32 degree F now, winds at 15 mph with gust of up to 23 mph, clouds & sunny - cellular signals onboard should begin to start work soon, another hour by the balconies or outdoors heading for the VZ Bridge ... maybe.

I find it interesting, because she did not lose time going thru pretty much the same weather as the Breakaway...if the medical emergency was that urgent, she would have sailed toward shore and be met by a medevac helicopter, I would think....

Almost but not quite at the VZ Bridge yet, off the Rockaways, going between 10 and 12 knots, harbor is busy. Not going to pull into Pier 88 any sooner than 11 o' clock at this pace.

Wondering if they extended breakfast hours & revised time to vacate the staterooms ? Some will try to make ground transport connections and being a Friday, afternoon is often horrible for getting out of town.

And those now arriving for the next cruise between 4p and 6p are going to have fun with traffic on the West Side
