Anthem of the Seas Cape Liberty departure

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on June 14 on the Anthem out of Cape Liberty. Our departure is scheduled for 4 pm. How long does it typically take to get past the Statue of Liberty and any other interesting sights? We have 5:45 My Time dining scheduled but I am thinking we want to eat later so we don't miss seeing the sights as we depart.

Thanks.

Anthem does not normally go past the Statue of Liberty. The pier is south of the statue and the ship would have to go out of it's way to pass the statue. Every once in a while someone reports that a Captain decides to take the ship past the statue, but this is not the usual way the ship heads when it leaves the pier.

Our experience on Explorer was that it took about 15 minutes to get to the Verrazano Narrows bridge.

If you depart on time 4pm,you will be passing the status of Liberty in about 2k that you can for when you go under the Varazzano5 minutes, but go to the highest deck till you go under the Varazzano bridge, that is exciting. As for the statue going out you will see the statue on the port[left ]side

Though the ships from Cape Liberty rarely "go around the backway" to pull into the Hudson proper, on days when it is clear and little large marine traffic is present you can see the Statue (just not the island well) from the ship while it is in the terminal.

As bob said, the ship doesn’t normally go that way. I would bring a long lens camera and go top desk. Our Anthem trip in January the Captain took us up as the ship was special. We stopped in FL 2 times for some special event.

Wow I am so glad that I didn't know this prior to our cruise last year. I would have spent the whole first afternoon worrying that we wouldn't go past Liberty.

That being said I seem to remember it wasn't much more of half an hour before we went past her and maybe enough half an hour before we under the bridge.

We were late sitting so we were not too worried about the time.

I'm surprised any ship going in or out of Bayonne's port would circle up to the Statue of Liberty, seems like it would take time, and not to mention turning around in busy NY Harbor doesn't sound like something you would do unless you had to. This is where leaving out of the Manhattan Terminal on Carnival or Norwegian has a very nice advantage.

No Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. However, a couple of years ago, the Captain turned left and went up the Hudson where we saw all of the sights. What was even more impressive was the 360 turn and we were no more than 150 feet from Battery Park. Hoping we have the same experience on our Aug. sail.

Anthem doesn’t usually go up towards the SOL as others have mentioned, but we were also on the same January cruise as AAA75 that did go up past SOL. We spoke with the Captain afterwards and he said it is only when they have time, the weather is good and marine traffic is light. We were lucky enough to get on the Northstar for the 1st “ride”. The view was awesome. It was our 1st time in the NYC area.

Tried to post a pic from my phone, but not showing up.

We went past the Statue of Liberty last summer when we were on the Canada/NE itinerary, but that is unusual.

We have sailed out of Bayonne many times and ime the ship is often running a little late for departure, and then it takes around 1/2 hour to get under the bridge. I think 5:45pm dinner should be enough time to see that but if you are worried maybe 6pm.

We like Port side balconies on Anthem specifically so we can see the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline as we leave Bayonne. Last time on her it was snowing and cold and we wore our winter jackets as we stood outside. Another fun view is from 270 going under the bridge.
