Oasis of the Seas Star Class 4/22-30 blog review

Recommended Posts

Trying out doing my review on a blog this time so the other cruisers who aren't on here can read it. I do have all the Compass editions as well as specialty and Coastal Kitchen restaurant menus to share but I'll have to wait to add those until I can get time later to scan them in. Until then, please enjoy my experiences and photos here: https://rrfpresident.blogspot.com/.

looking forward to reading more. That's going to be our cabin too in August. Is the shampoo /conditioner bottles full size or sample size?

I see other helpful cruisers beat me to seeing your question but I'll add a little to it. Already in our showers were the full size bottles like this. That's a tiny travel size poof next to them:

And stowed under the sink was extra full size bottles and bar soaps. Also on the shelves lining the side of the bathroom mirror had what looked like travel size refill bottles:

I'm enjoying reading your daily blog. Love the photos also. Is the food upgrades in the specialty dining included at no charge? only one main entree is allowed?

The food upgrades are included at no charge. They are also included if you choose to eat in the main dining room and order one of their upcharge items like the surf and turf. No issue either with getting more than one main entree if you want it.

Here's my receipt at Chops after ordering the upcharge lobster entrée and the Spicy Shrimp entrée:

Just caught up. Do you think you would get a cabana again?

Yes I would. What the cabana gave us in a place to relax and store our stuff sometimes in the sun and sometimes in the shade outweighed the service issues. Our location was great for what we needed out of the beach day. I did repeatedly see other cabana attendants frequently checking in on their cabanas and doing things for them so I'm thinking we just got the "unluck of the draw" so to speak with our attendant.

Thanks so much for such a thorough review!

I’m curious to hear your final thoughts on being in star class. Was it worth it? Would you do it again? To be honest, in reading your review, I don’t know if I would do it again (if I were you) based on your experience. It seemed as though there were a bunch of (albeit) small hiccups daily that would have annoyed me (given the hefty price tag). I’m so glad I read your review because it made me think about whether or not I would enjoy having a genie, and what the genie experience looks like. For me personally, I don’t think I’d like the phone calls, meeting times, escorts etc.

It also seems like your dining experiences were frustrating at times (and slow seemed to be a consistent theme). What were your overall dining thoughts?

Again, thank you so much for your thorough review. It was one of the most honest, and helpful ones I’ve read!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I prefer to write with a little bit of humor and a lot of honesty. So many times you hear someone insist everything on their cruise came up roses and then you have those that swear everything was horrible but never explain why. Any cruise will have its ups and downs whether you stay in the cheapest interior cabin or the most expensive suite. You could do the same sailing as I did in Star Class and have everything work perfectly for you.

There were a few poor service issues that I would have spoken up about whether I could drop the genie phrase or not. That was something that no one regardless of cabin category should be experiencing. I also think the genie experience is what you make of it. They are there simply to make things easier and on a ship like Oasis, we're not sure we'd want to sail it any other way. A good part of our decision to try Star Class was for the perks, not just the concept of having someone to handle everything for us. Some people ask a lot of their genies so perhaps it throws them a little when they have a cruiser like us who are laid back happy to do our own thing once they've taken care of the details like reservations. You don't have to do any escorts etc during your sailing. We only asked for one in Labadee because we expected a huge crowd to get off.

To address your dining question - We went in thinking of taking advantage of every eatery because it was included for us. Otherwise we would have been more inclined to just choose 1 or 2 to try. Most were great experiences and not always just because we had gotten upper management involved. The ones where service was slow, it was slow for everyone. I even recall a review on here from the sailing after mine that said service was so slow in the same places they had to leave before finishing their meal. If I was to rank the places we tried, Chops would be #1 not only because of their food and above and beyond service (no one else has ever offered to make my food less spicy) but also because they gave that good service before we ever raised an issue. 2 - Izumi because both the food and the experience was good. 3 - Giovanni's Table for the food, the service, but mostly for the extra care our waiter took to warn me about the cannoli shell dough including nuts. That's not something the average person would realize. They'd only be looking for whether nuts was in the filling or toppings. Johnny Rockets I'd say was more our particular waiter as I saw others who were more attentive to their tables. Sabor was slow but I read a lot of reports from others about the slowness of Sabor. We wouldn't have ever said anything to Smitha if she hadn't asked if we'd had the same experience as the other family. The food was good. And of course 150 Central Park ranks lowest not only for the poor service but the poor way they tried to fix it. I think if they would have been more on par with what you'd expect from any upcharge specialty restaurant, then I would have definitely liked their food better than I did.
