Los Muertos Beach, $8 cab ride,

or $6 cab ride to Malecon and then epic stroll to Los Muertos Beach,1/2 mile south

way to much beautiful in PV, to sit isolated in a resort

They could also take a bus for 7.5 Pesos (about 40 cents) and sit at the Sea Monkey where they can get $1 beer or Margaritas. Now that is a cheap day in a pretty decent resort city :).

Hi Hank, where is best place to get pesos for the bus? Does it take us $? Also is this beach, Los Muertos ok for young kids, age 5? And finally best place for tacos along that beach?

We usually take the bus when we are there. If you go outside the port area to main road , to the left the bus stops that will take you to the Malecon. I think you can give them US dollars but will either not get change or change in pesos. But it’s pretty cheap, like less than a dollar

You can use USD for the bus. $1 for 2 people. There will be people swimming in the water. But it’s likely to be cold and rough. Watch the kids carefully as the Pacific was misnamed.

Lots of restaurants along the beach. We’ve never had an issue with any of them.

Lately the port has been putting most of the ships into Pier #3 (the one furthest North) and we are not aware if there is any kind of ATM at that pier (we have always docked at Pier 1 when we came here on a cruise). So, if this is your first Mexican port, and you plan on using the local bus (only take a bus which has "Centro" somewhere on the front windshield) then you can just use US Dollars. $1 should cover two one-way fares. Once you get into town, there are ATMs scattered throughout the city....but we strongly recommend only using ATMs that are bank owned.

As to Los Muertos (where DW and I sit just about every afternoon)....the beach is very safe for any age....but the water is NOT! Like on any beach you really need to keep young children close....when you allow them to play in the water...even if just dipping their feet. The sea here often has waves that can easily sweep a child (and some adults) right off their feet.

As to Tacos on the beach, my favorite Taco places are not right on the beach and not even open at lunch. Most of the beach front restaurants will have some tacos on their menu. A popular place for cruisers (and many others) is the Sea Monkey...which is the first beachfront restaurant located in the Romantic Zone (also called Old Town) after you cross the pedestrian bridge (from Centro). The Sea Monkey does have some Tacos and the usual nachos options. Friends tell me their fish tacos are decent...but we have never tried them (even though we live on top of that restaurant). One caution is that the beach in front of the Sea Monkey is not safe for swimming (or even wading) because there are too many rocks. The part of the beach close to the pier and south of the pier has the safest swimming (assuming the waves are not too big).

Regarding the beach front restaurants, we would not hesitate to eat or drink at any of those places in terms of safe food and drink. In fact, I would say the same about nearly any restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. One reason (among many) that we love living here is because of the huge variety of food venues. The ice and water in all of our restaurants (in town) is safe as is the food. Many will say the same about the street food vendors....although my DW prefers to avoid street vendors. The reality about tacos is that many of the best are found at some of the street vendors. One small taco place, called Pancho Tacos" is often rated among the top 10 on tripadvisor...but is not open until 6pm.....and will nearly always have a long line of gringos waiting to get a seat. Another Romantic Zone taco restaurant (that we really like) is called Tacos Revolucion and opens around 2pm. This place is about 2 blocks from the beach (south of the pier) and works if you have a late lunch or snack.
