Going on REGAL next week, been on ROYAL once - any major differences?

the Regal is a 7 day, and the Royal I believe was 5, maybe even 4

anything to be on the lookout for?

mid forward, Caribe, IB

I 'believe' Regal has the center stairs opened, and maybe retrofitted an aft pool?...

Sister ships, not much difference except the crew and senior leaders. Been on both and loved both. At one point the Regal did not have the center staircase but now does. Enjoy [emoji568]

Yes, stairs and yes small aft dipping pool. The ships are pretty much identical just some minor interior differences. It's all about the crew.

As said, a few differences. There is a narrow space behind the lifeboats and tenders so you can walk from one end of the ship to the other on Promenade deck. Another difference is that the Regal has a slightly different design and baffles to help prevent the aft soot problem on balconies and there’s a slightly different design at the Retreat Pool to help with the wind problems.

We were on the Regal last month and the Royal in December. We never used the pool they added to the Regal. We did use the MUTS and Retreat pools. I liked being able to walk a bit on the Promenade Deck behind the lifeboats.

On our Royal cruise, the evening event for Platinum, Elite, and suite passengers was held in the Vista Lounge. It was in Club 6 on the Regal. I think the difference, though, is more about the number of guests that qualify for the event. (We enjoyed it more on the Regal than we did on the Royal.)

I was on the Royal in mid Dec. I am Platinum but we did not go to the event in the Vista. We were in the bar waiting for dinner in the Crown. The line to get into the Vista extended all the way to mid ship! Way too many people for size of the room. I was on Regal in mid March last year. The newly added aft pool is not just near the smoking area. It is the smoking area! Really bad news.

Big difference is the staff and service. I have been on both multiple times. Regal is a happier ship. Staff is happier, friendlier and it shows in every aspect. I don't think I would sail the Royal again if they gave me the cruise.

Interesting observation. We just got off the Royal from a 10 day and found all the staff that we encountered to be friendly and helpful. If it has been awhile maybe we got a fresh group of different people. Won't be able to compare for awhile. Doing a 14 day cruise on Royal in October, 2018, and a 25 day cruise on the Regal, August, 2019! Will have to compare after those two cruises!

Staff on ships changes continuously and,in my opinion, management influences the attitude of the staff. I haven't been on the Regal but have spent over 50 days on the Royal including 25 last fall and had no complaints whatsoever about the staff.

My first experience on the Royal was the maiden caribbean cruise. Did back to back 5 day then 7 day. I became platinum mom became elite on second leg. After many visits to CC host still no benefits. Emailed customer relations day 4 got benefits day 5. Got a very curt call from Chrissy stating she was able to fix the issue.

Fast forward to 2017 sailing 10 day caribbean. Did BVE with friend from FLL. She is recovering from a stroke and mobility challenged. So boarding with my 82 year old mom who is also mobility challenged. Chrissy comes and informs us we are not allowed to board with our BVE guest. Quote "that's not how it works". I have done 3 previous BVEs so I know how it works. There is much more to the story but that's how it started.

Although we enjoyed most of those 10 days it took 10 months and a casino offer before I even considered cruising again. For awhile I thought I was cured of my cruise addiction.

Royal staff from the top down did not live up to my experience on other ships.
