NY/NJ PATH Train Will See 17 Weekends Of Station Closures This Summer/Fall

Recommended Posts

Travel is about to get a little more complicated at PATH train stations on weekends until the end of October. 17-weekend series of tunnel and station closures, beginning the weekend of May 19 and resuming July 7 through the end of October. The schedule will mean closing the Exchange Place and World Trade Center stations during the weekends of May 19 and July 7, which will affect the Newark-World Trade Center lines.

All New York PATH stations from Hoboken to 33rd Street will be closed starting the weekend of July 14 and running through October 28, impacting train schedules and service.

The Hoboken PATH station will be open during this period except for three Sundays: September 15 and 22, and October 13. The closures will run each weekend from 11:59 p.m. on Fridays through 5 a.m. the following Monday. They will not be in effect Labor Day weekend.

To ease rider impact, PATH is working with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to provide free, 2-trip MetroCards for travelers affected by the closures. Customers will be able to pick up the 2-trip cards at designated points from PATH ambassadors. The special MetroCards can be used only during the weekend issued.

This work is being done to install Federal mandated Postive Train Control (PTC).

Glad we booked our hotel in Parsippany instead of Newark and trying to take the PATH to NYC

Don't panic about this - look at your particular dates first!

These are weekend only closures - http://www.panynj.gov/path/ - and not every weekend. They are also offering special metro cards to use the NY subway. NJ Transit trains from Newark to NY Penn Station are not affected, so you can still get to Manhattan.

According to the Path website, World Trade Center was closed last weekend and will be closed again July 7 weekend. The rest of the closures seem to affect the Hoboken to 33rd St service. What this means is that to get to midtown you would have to go to World Trade and take the NY subway uptown - not the end of the world, particularly if they give you a special round trip Metrocard for free.

The NJ Transit Hudson-Bergen light rail will also be available between Hoboken and Exchange Place -

NJ Transit will cross honor PATH riders on the Hudson–
Bergen Light Rail when stations in New Jersey are closed.

If you're staying in Newark or Jersey City on a weekend, just post your questions and we'll try to get you answers.
