pbenjamin Posted June 25, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2018 (edited) We went to Paladar San Cristóbal. Highly recommended, dinner reservations are strongly urged. This is where the Obamas ate when they visited. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g147271-d2042638-Reviews-San_Cristobal_Paladar-Havana_Ciudad_de_la_Habana_Province_Cuba.html https://www.facebook.com/paladarsancristobal.******* Edited June 25, 2018 by pbenjamin
Bookish Angel Posted June 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2018 Anyone know of any good mom 'n' pop retaurants? I grew up in Tampa and can still taste the exceptionally good arroz con pollo, boliche, ropa vieja, etc., found in little hole in the wall places. NOT looking for haute cuisine, - just great, simple Cuban food. Thanks.
RiverBlues Posted July 6, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 6, 2018 "Simple" Cuban restaurant food (as opposed to what a host might cook at home in a casa particular for guests) is NOT often very good. They suffer from lack of products available. There is, for example, no beef for ropa vieja at a price a "simple" restaurant (one where ordinary Cubans can afford to eat) could buy. Pollo for arroz com pollo at a hole in the wall in Cuba is often barely edible. Stick to the higher end restaurants, lest you be at best disappointed. There are lists of the good ones on http://www.lahabana.com (the ones with 5* there). You can find a good one for 10-12 CUC for dinner, certainly less than 20 CUC (unless you drink a lot). pbenjamin Posted August 6, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Pbenjamin, what was the attire? We were actually there for lunch and it was pretty much tourist casual, even shorts. In the evening I would suggest long pants, etc. but you don't need to dress up.
