Passover is over!

Passover is over...and what do you think I had for breakfast?????Matzo, of course! SERIOUSLY, my weight is not pleasing and I HAVE to make a fresh start...so today is the day. I intend to post more often and succeed in losing a few pounds. Good luck to us all.

Ugh--I threw away my matzah left...plus that nasty HoneyStars cereal the kids didn't eat!! Pizza 4 dinner last nite tho, and yeay me, I only ate 1 yes, ONE choc. chip cookie!!

Things around here have been very stressful lately, as my mom just came back home from the hospital (she had pneumonia), and now requires near 24 hour a day care. Until she can either fend for herself, or move to a nursing facility, the last thing on my mind is what I put in my mouth...

Thanks for your good thoughts, guys... The dr. just left here about a half hour ago. Yes... Believe it or not, he made a house call. Mom is jaundiced and anemic, and needs to go to the hospital for tests. It looks like she will go there tomorrow, spend 3-4 days doing tests, and then go directly to a local nursing home for rehab, for 2-3 weeks. This whole ordeal has drained me...
On a lighter note...
I have to know... Which is your favorite Chicago pizza, Mir???

Pam, I'm so sorry about your Mom. Hope she's feeling better soon. I can relate totally that when you're stressed it's sooooo hard to add the extra burden of worrying about what you're eating. You'll get back on track when you're ready and we'll all be here to cheer you on. Remember to take care of yourself also while caring for your Mom.

Wishing your mom a full recovery... having pneumonia takes it's toll on a person.. and if they're a bit older it's even harder. At least now she's in skilled hands to get her "levels" back to normal. It IS stressful when a loved one is ill and making sure she's getting all the help and attention she needs. Be gentle with yourself now while going through this... stress can wreak more damage to you (other than weight)... Hoping that things go smoothly for her transition to rehab for a full recovery.. it takes time.

Hi Lill! Matzo is unlevened bread. They are flat boards. When the Jews had to leave Egypt (where they were slaves), they had no time to allow the bread to rise. That is why we eat flat matzo. They may have some in your supermarket, if you want to try it. Some people really like it; others don't. In itself, it is not fattening...but what you put on it is another story!!! Also, it is quite heavy, and plays havoc with some people's digestion.

Pam, it was Eduardo's deep dish spinach pizza. There used to be one on Howard St. but I know it closed. Next best is Unos downtown. It must be deep dish spinach tho.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Maybe you can get some rest while she's in the hospital and rehab?

Thanks to all for your good wishes for me and my mom (or is it *my mom and I*?)...
All I can do today is sit around and wait for the hospital to call, to let us know when a room is available (she's insisting on private). Once they call, I will arrange for a private ambulance service to pick her up and take her, as I am unable to assist her enough in getting out of the house, and in and out of the car.

Mir... There is (orused to be) an Eduardos on Dundee and Milwaukee in Wheeling, and they had the BEST stuffed spinach pizza! I think they're still there, so maybe next time you come in town, you'll have to come to MY neck of the woods for lunch! I LOVE spinach stuffed pizza!!!

Good luck w/getting Mom in.. when my mother was admitted in hosptal at first they didn't have bed (was in ER for over a day) and they were about to send her home (that would have been imposible). THEN after all that she ended up being in for almost 5 weeks.. (and they were going to send her home). If she has some "special " needs (or preferences) once she's in start asking around about rehabs since I know in the LI area beds at the "decent" (aka non-nursing home) facilities are hard to come by and you want to make the transition as smooth as possible, Unf. stress is horrible for you but at least you lost a few (wish it worked that way for me). Good luck.

Thanks for your thoughts, Carolyn. The hospital called at 3, the ambulance service picked her up at 3:30, and she was in her private room by 4:15. My brother in law went to see her last night, and I am going this morning...
We already know where she will be going for rehab, so don't have to worry about that. Now... we just wait for test results and treatment...

Lucky you have BIL to also check in... it's helpful to have support (I've got a good for nothing Sister loves to give advice from a distance --- but).
