I came home from 1 cruise out of 8 with a super cold & awful sore throat. I ended up with 3 sick days from work after the cruise. My son also stayed home sick from school 2 of those 3 days. My daughter? Not a symptom. We're exposed to many germs on a cruise. I feel like if you cruise enough, you're going to pick up something.

Our last cruise several from the FB group had symptoms. None of our group got sick.

Sorry you're not feeling well. I've had that happen before too when cruising, especially when I fly into my cruise. Airplanes seem to be like germ incubators this time of year. One cruise a few years ago, I got sick the day after the cruise started and ended up staying mostly in bed for the rest of the trip. Hope you feel better soon.

We bring along those Vitamin C blast supplements they sell everywhere and take them on the first onset of an itchy or sore throat. The ones I like are effervescent and dropped into a glass of water up to 3x a day.

Everyone may have a different opinion of them, but within 24 hrs they work for me nearly 100% of the time...

I think the only time they don't work is if it is not truly a cold. I go with zinc lozenges and they have been a life saver countless times.

Also, not to be that person, but flu shots are helpful.

I always seem to get a sore throat and head cold a few days after getting home from any vacation. My doctor tells me it is the airplanes most likely where I am picking it up. The recirculate the air inside for the whole flight, and if anyone on the plane is sick, you all breathe their germs.

I had the same thing happen on our cruise this past summer. I bought the Sucrets in the gift shop, which actually numb the throat, so that did help some. I was miserable for like 2-3 days though! I didn't stop me from doing things, but it wasn't as fun. I'm sure there's so much junk going around from our flight and then being on the cruise itself. And thankfully, it really only lasted like 3-4 days.

About 25 or so of our FB group caught an upper respiratory infection while on Magic last month and mine turned into acute bronchitis. Took me over three weeks to get over it. It started out as a slight "knot" in the back of the throat that turned into a bad sore throat, moved to my head and then straight to my lungs. Not blaming the ship or anyone. Just stating a fact. It happens when you are in such tight quarters with sick people.

So why go to the casino?

It's not necessarily a choice, it's in the middle of deck 5 and generally you have to go through it to get from one end of the ship to the other. I was on the Lido on my last ship so I went aft up there, then down to 5 for the piano bar, returned the reverse way.

It's one thing to be gambling, sitting, drinking, smoking, but inevitably there's a jerk walking the aisle with his or her cigarette, blowing smoke willy-nilly.....blech.....

I start with cold-eeze (zinc) at the first twinge. Cold milk/ice cream also soothes.

Maybe those smoking sections should be in the front or back of the ship so people don't have to stumble through them to get to where they are going. It seems silly to have smoking on the main walkway through the casino and not to the far side. I use the same trick, as I walk across the floor above the casino to get to the other side of the ship. I don't mind the extra exercise, and besides, I keep myself smelling fresh that way.

On our Liberty cruise in 2015, I was in the casino playing a slot. The guy next to me kept coughing without covering his mouth. Three days after the cruise, I went to Redi-Med with a horrible cough. I wound up in the hospital with influenza, sepsis and pneumonia for eight days. It had affected my heart to where I had to have a defibrillator implanted.

Now when we cruise, I constantly wash my hands and make sure my hands never come close to my mouth.

And by the way, I had a flu and pneumonia shot. They said it was a different strain than what the shots were for. Just my luck.

I am so glad they stopped allowing smoking in some of the food areas. I stopped cruising for 6 years until something finally changed. I always look now to see where all of the smoking areas are before I cruise, so I know to avoid those areas. It is ashame that I have to avoid the casino, where if I gambled, at least I wouldn't affect others around me. Years from now people will look back and say, people actually smoked? Ashame you got sick, but germs are everywhere. I always carry sanitizer to help eliminate the chances of catching something.

It is still circulating on the Magic. Many from my FB group say that they are now sick. We are just off yesterday. A couple have reported the flu.
