Drink package Cheaters??

That's funny. Why people worry so much about what other people do boggles my mind.

Leave the policing to RC.

Same as when people grab a handful of grapes or open a package of cookies in the supermarket and munch on a few - it drives up prices for everyone else.

People keep saying it drives the price up, please explain that statement. I actually LOSE money on the deal because I only buy it for the access to the Freestyle machines. I get it, if 2 people share and both really use it, but you are making big assumptions. Live your life as you wish, and stop judging others.

If I grab a drink or eat something I keep the container/package and then put it through at the checkout - besides guilt would otherwise get the he better of me, you're right in saying it makes it worse for everyone else

I'm not sticking my head above the parapet regarding the rights and wrongs of this but I have seen a couple challenged regarding it.

I can't remember which ship now but something irregular was spotted between the casino bar and schooner bar. A chap in a shirt with stripes took a note of their cabin number, sea pass cards were inspected and some general notes made. A security guard was close by.

Putting the moral issue to one side, this sort of situation in a packed (and quiet) schooner bar would be enough to put me off.

Once I overheard a bartender being questioned by a supervisor about a passenger's consumption. Apparently he was averaging 30 drinks a day. :eek:The bartender told his supervisor that everyone in the passenger's party also had the drink package so he didn't think he was sharing. That's some serious drinking.

come on, be honest. Who purchased a drink package and did you share, even though you knew it was wrong

Define "share" though.

Two scenarios...

Pax#1 has a package. He goes to a bar and gets a drink, gives it to Pax#2 (who doesn't have a package), goes to a different bar and gets another drink for himself.

Pax#1 has a package. They get a drink. Pax#2 doesn't have a package, but wants to know how the drink tastes. Pax #1 (spouse, SO, whatever) offers them a sip.

By the "letter of the law", they are both sharing. Personally I don't see anything wrong in scenario #2. The passengers in scenario #1 however should have their package rescinded.

That being said, I don't pay close enough attention to what others are doing to realize someone is sharing. People will always try to get away with something (ie: those who drive over the speed limit).

No one is judging you. We already know what theft is. Just want you to know what it is so hopefully, you don't continue down that road!

Justifying theft because you feel it is unfair, is not a true justification.

And I say, we're all adults, and will make judgement calls as we see fit. Don't try to tell me you don't EVER speed... because you know, that's just as illegal. But you don't see me preaching to you about it, do you? Because that's YOUR problem, not mine. I am not going to lose sleep over letting my daughter have a soda or two from my soda package. If that's all you have to worry about - correcting someone else's behaviour, more power to you. It's one thing to point out that it's theft, but another for people to KEEP harping on it. Point made, so back off. To claim "no one is judging you" is complete and utter BS.

DH has shared his OJ with DS. It bothers, me so now we pay OOP when DS wants OJ. Bonus, when paying OOP you get a choice of sizes, and the smaller one (not what is given with package) is a much more reasonable serving of OJ for one person.

I just looked it up, and there's still a soda-only package. I hope that's what you're buying and you lose money because you use it so rarely. And if you use it so rarely, why buy it?

I was just reading a thread where the passenger received an email with stated boarding times. They were upset about it since they always arrived earlier than the email time. Every person who responded pretty much said to ignore the email and arrive early. So, policies regarding what time to arrive for a certain group of people can be ignored - but policies on sharing beverages are gospel? I can see how it would be a big advantage to the staff to have all people/luggage for a particular deck to arrive in the same time frame. But it seems no one (well, no one chimed in against it) cares about that.

RCI pays for the soda ($x). They then charge you for the soda ($y). The difference between those two costs is profit ($y - $x = $z).

Now, if someone who didn't pay for the soda drinks the soda, the equation becomes ($0 - $x = $z). RCI wants $z to be a certain number. To make up for the negative, they increase the cost to the passenger ($y). So now $y is higher. "Stealing" drives the price up.

Is it going to drive the price up if only a single passenger does this? Of course not. But when you get hundreds or thousands of passengers doing it, it affects the bottom line.

We usually only buy the soda package and we never cheat on it because everyone in the cabin has their own refill cup - HOWEVER - when I am paying $8.50 a day for the soda package per person, I feel like RCI is cheating ME when they seem to have a hard time keeping the Freestyle machines stocked with ice and soda / flavor cartridges.

For what they charge for the drink package, on an Oasis or Freedom class ship that would EASILY pay the salary of a 1-2 crew people (with plenty of $$ to spare) to be dedicated to keeping the Freestyle machines stocked as their full time job...

Believe it or not, solely because I like to play with the Freestyle machines!

Lol. Then it's an upcharge for entertainment. ;)

My son and I like to look at the balloons at Disney. He used to beg that I buy him one, and I did once, and he realized quickly that holding a balloon doesn't let you look at it, and looking at it is where the enjoyment lies. We joke that once Disney figures that out they will start charging the people looking at the balloons. :) Entertainment comes in unexpected places! :)
