Baltimore departure hotel

Hello

We are departing out of Baltimore in November and looking to stay in a hotel near the Harbor/ aquarium the night before. I have a couple of questions.

1. How far is this area to the port? We are driving in and will probably park at the pier

2. What hotel would be the best and safest?

3. What restraints would any recommend to eat at the night before that is in within walking distance?

4. is the aquarium worth going to?

Anything else would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mark

1. Very close, maybe 10 - 15 minutes drive.

2. Any of the inner harbor ones. Most of the major chains are there.

3. Best, would be to walk over to the Little Italy area for dinner. Mo's (same area) for seafood, most of any of the others for Italian. The restaurants in the actual inner harbor area are OK, but mostly chain places.

4. I think so. The Baltimore Aquarium is the first of the new design aquariums. So the template of aquariums all over the world.

Another option for hotels is the BWI airport area. It is not far from the port, most hotels, and there is Arundel Mills mall with a casino nearby. Down that way is a very good German restaurant on Route 100 right by 295.

For 2-4...

For hotels, close to aquarium and walking distance to good restaurants kind of depends on what you're looking for.

2 & 3. The Renaissance is very nice, although kind of boring. It has the advantage of self-parking, so when you check out you can just go to your car and head on over to the port without waiting on a valet. Very close to the Aquarium. A bit of a walk to Little Italy. There are also hotels in Harbor East, which would be a little closer to Little Italy. There are plenty of other restaurants within a quick taxi or Uber to the Inner Harbor. One of my favorites, that also has the advantage of being a great place to pick up wine for your cruise, is the Wine Market Bistro. That would require a cab or Uber but is very nice (and has a retail wine shop for carry out, or drink in at retail + a reasonably corkage).

.4. Yes, The National Aquarium is very nice. You can see a lot of it in a couple of hours.

BTW, I'm assuming 2 adults in my answers. If we're talking a family, then the hotel may get more complicated, as will the dining options...

If you stay in the Inner Harbor area I would consider the Habor East area.

This is the new extension of the Inner Harbor. You are about a 10 minute or so walk to the aquarium about 5 to 10 minutes to Little Italy and about 10 minute walk to Fells Point.

Thanks everyone. Is there an Embassy Suites around there?

Yes. 222 St Paul Pl, Baltimore, MD 21202. Up the hill and away from the Harbor. From the map, that's what I'd call an "interesting" area of Baltimore. Probably no issues walking to the Aquarium in the daytime, but the Spidey sense will be tingling, a lot, going to dinner at night... (Mind you, it's still probably perfectly safe, but Baltimore can get strange pretty fast...)
