New to Viking Ocean

Hi All,

My partner and I are considering a Mediterranean cruise in March 2018. We are very close to booking. From what we can see on the website and what we have read, we love the whole look and philosophy of the Viking Ocean experience.

We have crusied before, but not for a number of years. That was on Celebrity, which we feel no need to revisit, even though we enjoyed at the time.

I am wondering if anyone can give me any opinion on the atmosphere and "vibe" onboard and of fellow travellers ? We are an Australian same sex couple, 48 and 52, have been living in Rome for the last year, and this cruise will mark the end of our time there. Whilst we lead a relatively quiet life (as best as you can in Rome ...!) we do enjoy our food and wine, and enjoy a convivial atmosphere. Any thoughts ?

Anyone that has switched from Celebrity to Viking Ocean? Would love feedback!

These threads will give a feel for the general vibe on the ship--in addition to any replies here.

I do not use "spa" except for an occasional massage. I really enjoyed the novel spa area of the Viking Ocean Ship. If you do not need to be right next to the pool there is plenty of deck space and loungers on the top deck. We choose Viking because of the port intensive itineraries, no formal nights, no kids , no casino and a very limited smoking area.

The "vibe" on the Star was no big deal. There were some same sex travelers and some same sex couples. No one seemed to be gawking or really avoiding these people. Everyone mixed with who they wanted to. One female couple seemed very outdoorsy and did a lot of hiking and what not. One male couple was traveling with one of their parents. These in particular were a little younger than the average age so they also stood out to a degree for that distinction. You shouldn't have any problems blending but there won't be any special events organized for you either.

Hi TonyJez, hope you went ahead and made the booking, I don’t think you’ll have any issues with Viking and will love their ocean cruises.

We’ve done one Viking Oceans, earlier this year, have another booked for April 2018 and enjoy all things Viking. The ships are beautiful, in our opinion, we don’t care for stuffy furnishings and like the Scandinavian, clean lines style very much. We can’t say enough great things about Viking. We’ve also done many Viking river cruises and plan to continue. Enjoy your planning and your travels. I think Viking would be a wonderful ending to your Roman adventure.

Go for it! I cannot imagine any concerns whatsoever. I hope you book some time on Viking and experience for yourself what we have all been talking about.

BTW -we loved being able to use the spa facilities at will -it is a lovely space. We also used both pools and had no issue finding loungers or seating space around either pool.
