Casino Slot Tournament Question

It has been a couple years since I sailed HAL, and I just booked a last minute cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam. Can you please tell me if every sailing has a slot tournament in the casino, and if so, what does it cost to participate? Thanks so much!

There has been at least one slot tournament on every one of my sailings. The entrance fee is $20. There is usually a deal that if you buy 3 cards/tickets, the third one is free.

How can the third be free if you have to buy 3? Do you mean the 4th is free? Thanks.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Basically buy two and the 3rd is free. Often they will say buy 3 and the 3rd is free. You pay for two. That has been the offer on my cruises I have been on.

Same for me on our cruises.

It's buy 2, get a 3rd Comp Entry. Some Tournaments are held over two different Sea Days and they have the Final on the 2nd one. You don't have to buy the 2 Entries on the same day. If you decide to buy the 2nd Entry on the day of the Final, you will get your Complimentary 3rd play. The Casino Host will know that you played on the first day.

On our 14 Day recent Cruise on Oosterdam we had a lot of Sea Days so they held two separate Tournaments and each one had two days of play with Final on the 2nd day.

I won the $500 in the First Tournament!

Can I ask some very basic questions? The $20, that is the entry fee correct? Then how much do you have to play each spin? Is it $1 or $5 or ?. How many spins do you play? I guess I'd like an explanation of how a tournament works LOL.

Thanks!

Correct, It's $20 for the Entry. The machines are set for 3 minutes and you only pay the $20 Entry Fee. In the 3 minutes you just keep hitting the button non-stop.

Depending on size of the Ship there are usually six spots on the Leader Board so the top scorers get their names on Board for the Final. You can be knocked off the Leader Board if players score higher. If I make it on Leader Board and stay there for the first day of the tournament, I'll check back on Final day to see if I was knocked off. If knocked off, I buy the 2nd Entry, etc.

Once Tournament closes to new players the scores are wiped clean for the Final Round to determine Winner. The top player picks the machine they want first, 2nd high score next and so on.

I'm not much of a gambler and play the regular slots a little here and there but I enjoy the Slot Tournaments!

Thanks everyone for the information, and especially about the buy 2 get 1 free bonus. Do they usually have 1 or 2 slot tournaments on a 7 day cruise?

On a seven day cruise I would expect only 1. Remember these things have to occur on Sea Days and I believe they are generally scheduled 2 hour blocks, at least for the qualifying rounds.

Cheers,

We just got off the NAmsterdam yesterday. It was our 3rd time sailing on her, and this time, everyone complained about the casino. It was take, take, take. Usually we at least win a little, play it and loose it. This time nothing but loses. Didn't hear anyone else winning. We weren't the exception. I know ship casinos are tight, but this time I couldn't believe how bad it was. Normally we go down a few times per day, but not this time. Didn't even go down the last day at all.
