Two people just got left behind as Harmony sailed away

Looked like a man and about a 12 year old boy arrived 40 minutes past all on board time and had to watch us sail away. I could hear the boy crying. I felt bad for him. It looked like someone threw their passports down to them.

At what port? It's odd that if the ship was still physically there they weren't allowed to board - or had you already pulled away?

We have seen that happen twice!

Once in Nassau....the husband was running down the dock as we pulled away and the wife was strolling along with her shopping bags. Guess she didn’t think the ship would leave her.

Second time in St Martin....young couple was an hour late. Someone said they were using their cell phone as their clock and it was not on ship time. Their ship had been gone about 20 min (we were on the ship next to theirs). The girl got so upset she fainted. It was sad....

Sounds like the captain delayed sailing close to 40 minutes before pulling away. I'll bet the father pays closer attention to the time next time. Oh well, lesson learned.

We were on Anthem in Nassua last week, docked beside Regal Princess. They pulled in all their gangways, closed all doors and were ready to sail when we saw a couple pushing two big suitcases making their way slowly down the pier among all the Anthem passengers who were coming on and off the ship as we were overnighting. Regal Princess dropped their lines and the bow thrusters started and the man starts running, pushing the suitcases. A man sitting in a golf cart, gets out and approaches the people. Woman sits on the pier and puts her head in her hands, man throws his arms up in the air, Regal Princess keeps going.

Not sure if these people missed the ship originally and had tried to catch up with it in Nassua or what, but they were loaded, along with their luggage, into the golf cart and taken away.

Do you think someone really threw their passports to them? I thought the process was if you aren't on board and the ship is leaving that a staff member searches your room for your passports and the passports are waiting on shore with a staff member that will escort you to somewhere (airport or something). I thought you weren't completely abandoned but rather the ship leaves and someone is left to bring you where you need to go to somehow find your way home.

Is this the case...or do they ever truly leave you on your own? Not saying most of the people don't deserve to be left on their own. But, for the times when it wasn't in their hands to be late I would hate for them to not have passports and just be stranded there with no clue where to get to help.

Sorry - this was in Nassau. The two weren’t even running to the ship until they saw the gangway pulled up. It is a long pier and by the time they got to where the gangway had been, the ropes had been retracted and the thrusters were pulling us away. There was a man waiting for them and the three stood there while some type of documents were thrown to them from somewhere we couldn’t see. They started walking back down the pier and a golf cart came and picked them up.

This would be our worst nightmare and we always make sure we are back on the ship way to early but rather that than not at all, there was a great post on here a while ago about someone who did miss the ship in Nassau and everything they had to go through to get to the next port.

Saw a woman pushing a baby stroller miss the ship. There just happened to be a speed boat rental waiting for her. This was 20 years ago, it cost her several hundred dollars.:(

Sorry to hear this. I wouldn't ever want to be in their shoes. I'm so paranoid about getting back way before the ship sails away! :o

That was a most amazing post. And even with all he went through, he was lucky. And lesson learned for me, don't depend on others to stick to the game plan.

On the recent Vision repositioning to Galveston there were two incidents of not getting back on time. Bermuda was the first port and Captain Marek announced we could watch for 2 pier runners, phone contact had been made with them, and the ship was waiting.

At the last port in Progresso, the captain announced the ship was departing, leaving behind 2 cruisers. The next day the captain announced they had made it back to the ship just as lines were being released.

On the last day during the captain/officer interview, it was stated that the late arriving couple in Bermuda , day 3 of 15 days, never spoke with or thanked the captain for delaying the ship for them.:confused:

This is so unfortunate, main reason we are sitting back on board up to 2 hours before departure time. I do hope the family is able to catch up at the next port.

Just WOW to these cases of missing the ship !!

We always make sure we are back a minimum of 0ne hour before the ship departs :)

How did they throw the passports -- I'd imagine that they would have hit the water before hitting the pier.

That just plain sucks. :(

Youtube has a bunch of pier runner videos. Sometimes they make it, sometimes they don't...

Had the same thing happen when someone I was cruising with had a tour bus break down in Vancouver causing her to be late. Almost made it the whole cruise without anyone knowing it was us. The water taxi was very expensive.

They didn't "throw" passports to them. If you're not onboard, the security official will go into your safe and LEAVE any documents with the port authority.

Not sure who was throwing the documents- I assumed it was the wife. They had to scramble under some type of structure to pick them up from where they fell. We were barely a foot from the pier when that happened.

I was on a cruise that we had the same itineray as The Liberty of The Seas - We were at Grand Caymen tendered - the Liberty of the Seas pulled out early and asked our ships captain to bring a couple that was still on the dock to the next port since both ships were going to port at another island together again - a little while later we saw the Liberty do a turn around and come back - The Port Authority of Grand Caymen made the RCCL ship come back for them since they pulled out early. I have never seen this before, but I thought it was pretty amazing!

Could you imagine being left at a port when you weren't late returning? As practical as it may seem to have a different ship bring your last few passengers to the next port for you so you can get a head start...you just can't do that! What if they had medications on board, or children, or...even just their belongings? I am glad they made that ship return!!!

Geez, at least make an effort. They probably saw the ship and thought they were home safe. The captain probably saw them strolling along and thought screw you guys, were going.
