Carnival Legend Questions

We are doing the re-positioning cruise and I have tried searching but can not find the information I am looking for so thought I would ask you knowledgeable lot! We have trouble calling carnival due to our work schedules.

What is the cost for the following drinks:

- a soft drink (trying to weight up if the package is worth it for someone that will only have a soft drink at lunch/dinner)?

- cocktails (just the average $x to $y type advice)?

- soda water and how is that served (bottle/can/glass)?

Am I allowed to bring (insert item here) on-board?

- cheese? We have a few members of our group celebrating milestones and want to have a little balcony party with some nibbles and yes I know cheese is available from the buffet and can be ordered through room service/gift shop but we have done this before on carnival and were less than impressed by the quality. We were hoping to BYO our favourites instead (yes we are cheese snobs and also want to include vegan cheeses).

- nuts/seeds? One of our group is vegan and the offers re food are just adequate especially from the buffet so they just want to bring some protein along to go with their rabbit food.

- crackers/chips? One of our group is a type 1 diabetic and wants to have some items on hand for shore excursions and in case their blood sugar drops between feeding times!

-tape? to temporarily hang decorations in cabins.

Thank you for your help.

You can take pre-packaged cheese, nuts, crackers and chips onboard. BTW we found the four cheeses pizza was a good substitute for cheese and crackers! ;p Only take pre-packaged food ashore. I'm not sure if all cabins have fridges though.

Tape is not a good idea as it can leave residue on the walls. Look at decorations that can be twined around things, also look at magnets (hooks and small magnets) and then attach the decorations to those or use them to hold the decorations in place. All the cabin walls are steel.

Can't remember soft drink/juice prices, but to "break even" you need to have 2 per day for children and 3 for adults. So one at lunch and dinner, then another while watching the nightly shows.

Not sure about soda water and don't drink so can't help on the cocktail prices.

We always bring along muesli bars etc for island snacks for the kids and never had a problem.

They will not like the tape! We have tied streamers around the fixed hangings and used sting for balloons.

Soft drinks come in actual cans. $2.75. if you get it this way they give you glass with ice & a can. if you get BB(bottomless Bubbles) it's $7.95 per day. You will get soft drink poured into glass of ice.. I usually get it as it's straight from a can & normally drink 3 litres a day. :=(..

Cocktails are about $10.95 to $11.95 on average (two or three shots in these).. this is of course in Aussie dollars. which is quite cheap compared to the other major line, that charges the same but in US Dollars..

As OzKiwijj said about your cheeses & nuts.

The magnet idea is great. Also there a lot of hanging spaces around the cabins TRIM (cornershers) to hang via coat hangers..

I have done Trans-Pacific in 2015.the best cruise i have ever been on. You will absouletly love Moorea & Bora Bora. i went from Sydney & the cruise kept on getting better & better as we went.

Happy cruising..

I found the cocktails on Legend to be really great value and delicious. Since they don't have a drinks package they don't stint on the alcohol. They are really nice and strong and probably cheaper than on land. P&O cocktails tasted like sugary cordial with a slight hint of spirits by comparison.

Also just wanted to confirm that we took some pre-packaged snacks on board (for kids to eat on the islands) and these were no problem.

Been on this beauty twice...all cabins have fridges. I didn't find them as cold as my usual one but they suffice.

You will be able to talk most packaged food on board although as I am from Europe I am not sure about cheese (they can be stricter about dairy here).

My hubby is a T1 diabetic too and we stopped bringing crackers/biscuits on cruises and took the mini boxes of cereal from breakfast ashore instead....or bought delicious biscuits ashore as they were more unusual. Obviously don't bring food from the ship into port if its unpackaged/just from the buffet.

Also, be careful with the tape as any damage to decor may be reported by a steward...not saying that you will make any.

Thank you everyone who replied and sorry for the delay in replying. That is the funny thing about cruises, you have to work to pay for them if you aren't retired! So I got sidetracked with getting as many work jobs done before floating off!

I will be ditching the tape and taking magnets instead. This has been a good thing as the fridge needed a long overdue magnet clean up.

Hunter69- what was the immigration process like at Honolulu? The only information I can find has been all complaints about how long it took, like 4 hours! We have an evening flight (to the main land) so we won't miss our flight but were hoping to enjoy the day on Oahu.

It wasn't to bad; we docked at 8:00 & had a disembarkment pretty early on. Instead of going off the boat; we went to main show-room in a line-up & 8 american immigration officers checked our ESTA forms & passports & stamped them.. I reckon lined up & getting off about 45 mins to hour. There passenger terminal is difficult to get out of.. Don't forget you will have to be at airport 1-1.5 hours before hand. I spent 2 days in Hawaii before flying over to main-land. I got a transfer to airport & got there 45 mins before flight but was denied axcess to my flight i was 2 late. had to hang around for another 5 hours cause we where flying to Seattle & that was next flight.. Enjoy..

thanks for the great info, I'm sailing on the repoisitioning too! I'm super excited!

Will need to find some soda water in cans....they all seem to come in bottles and I want to take some on board with me.

Three weeks today! Wow!

Sorry to gatecrash this thread, we are looking at doing a cruise from Sydney to Hawaii, and have never sailed Carnival, how to they compare with P&O, Princess and Royal Caribbean. We are currently weighing up Celebrity for the Hawaii cruise never gave Carnival a thought until now they are a lot cheaper.

Littlebluebook- one of our party rang carnival to ask about soda water. They were transferred to the USA call centre and the helpful person recited the soft drink package inclusions (which was the US packages) and stated it might be different for Australian sailings. So not very helpful at all but the list she read did have club soda on it which I think is American for soda water. However we have found that cascade have cans of soda water (200ml) which is sold at woolies and Dan Murphy’s.

From memory you can buy cans (200mls) and bottles (1L) Of Perrier (that fancy shmancy stuff) from the cafe on deck 2 forward. The cans were like $3 and the bottle was $6 I think. If you can hold off until your first port of call Noumea buy a few bottles of soda water from the casino supermaché just opposite the info center. When we did our Transpacifics on the Legend we stocked up there on nibbles chips lollies (Cheap Haribo gummies [emoji18]) and big bottles of water (best brand is volvic). They didn’t stop us bringing it on board. You can also buy French wine but you’ll lose that until Honolulu. Just don’t buy Aussie brand Foods from the shop (they sell timtams and arnotts biscuits at inflated prices). Hope this helps!

P & O would be a step down from Carnival; with smaller older boats. Princess has a much older cruise cliental. There's nothing much between RCL & Carnival. I prefer Carnival my-self cause it was cheaper & had better island stops...

Australian dollars, until you get to Hawaii. US dollars whilst cruising Hawaii and Alaska then back to AU when it leaves Hawaii in September.

Have a great time! We loved our 25 days on board in 2016!

Is it Coke or Pepsi aboard Carnival please?

A friend suggested Carnival when I was complaining about the apparent price of a Princess Cruise almost doubling for me0and I have only seen the pricing online and I do have trouble reading the screen so might be wrong. Pepsi has startled me with a sudden LOUD belch happening without warning, so I learnt not to drink Pepsi as it happens EVERY time I try it!

Someone advised of the 13 can limit for bringing your own cans, I plan to bring some for the stateroom.

Hoping to sail on the Legend out of Melbourne.

Does anyone know the price range for the Seafood Bar please? I know it's pay to eat venue, but I DO like a nice plate of fish and chips!

Good news it’s coke & coke brands on board. As for the seafood bar the cheapest thing was $5-$7 for a New England Chowder served in a bread bowl.

They have a seafood platter for $13 as well. Most of the stuff is that is cooked is under 20$. Average price was about $10-$13 dollars. Obviously buying fresh prawns oysters or lobster will be at market value.

Attached is the clam chowder and the seafood platter to enjoy [emoji6]

THANK YOU! I had guesstimated $15-$20 so delighted I am fairly accurate.1 moneybox earmarked to take small change ready for the cruise, probably 2019 or 2020. I am committed to another cruise on the Golden Princess, but until I can actually get a printed brochure to check the prices for myself re future Princess cruising, I'm a bit uncertain.

Sailing out of Melbourne would substantially reduce airfares for me-Sydney requires a change of plane, and careful scheduling to minimise overnight accommodation being needed. Didn't work this year, the Sunday flight from my hometown was too late getting into Melbourne to transfer to a Sydney flight, and I WON'T fly in the day of the cruise, I'm too mobility challenged to cope safely.
