Just in Nassau

We also spent a day in Nassau. As I have said before, we are not beach people, so we always look for different options when we visit ports in the Caribbean. We have been to Nassau 2 previous times, where we visited the zoo, and another time, just strolled around the main part of town. This time, we pre booked a tour of the island with Tyrone Wilson Tours. We had about 10 people on the tour in a very comfortable air conditioned Nissan Van. We had a driver (sorry, but I forgot his name) that has been doing tours in Nassau for over 40 years and he was excellent as our guide. We had a 4 1/2 tour for $30PP. We were taken to all the major highlites including Paradise Island where we had about 45 minutes to explore on our own, to the Queens Staircase where he dropped us off on the top and we walked DOWN where we were met once again. We visited a perfume factory, a Rum cake factory a chocolate factory. All in all we were very satisfied. Those that wanted to get off by Junkanoo beach were able to and they made their way back to the ship on their own.

I would highly recommend this tour company.

Cheers

Len

Thank you for your ideas. Visiting Nassau in June and we aren’t beach people either. Did you communicate with your tour group via email? Facebook?

We found this tour on Trip Advisor, which got us to their web site and we emailed a few questions. We also looked at another tour company, but they wanted us to pre pay and Tyrone Tours- we paid when the tour was over. We prefer that, although I can understand why tour companies want people to pre pay. We were very satisfied with the entire process and tour.

Cheers

We want to do Tyrone Wilson's tour, but I thought the tour was only 3 hours. Our ship docks at 10 so we would have to do the 1 pm tour. The ship leaves at 6. I would like to be back by 5 at the latest. Also, what were you able to see at Atlantis? I read that a lot of things are restricted to resort or excursion guests. Finally, the perfume factory wasn't listed on the website when I checked. Is it something new. What did you see or do there?

Just do a private tour. I personally like Cheryl Bahamas Taxi and Tours. You can do the tour however you like at whatever time you like. I would get off at 10 and request to visit the Fish Fry or another lunch place around noon. We did a 4 hour tour which included the zoo and all the other major stops.

Our tour WAS listed at 3-31/2 hours, but we went on the early tour and, I guess, the driver was in no hurry.

Atlantis IS restricted, but we just wandered thru the Hotel, the casino and around some of the grounds. It was our first time there, and we just got as feel for the place.

As for the perfume factory, like the other 'factory' stops, it is more of a place to buy things than an actual tour. I'm not sure if this was on the itinerary, but we past by and we stopped. They gave us a short tour and explained how they made some of the scents and, of course, we had an opportunity to buy.

I think, if we would have let our driver know we had to be back at the ship at a certain time, he would have gotten us there in plenty of time.

As I said, for the money, well worth it. Very professional, with a nice new van.

Cheers
