Nieuw Amsterdam Decorating for Christmas

It varies. I've been on NA twice--both times around the second week in December and both times the ship was decorated. However, last year we sailed on Veendam and there were no decorations up until about a week before Christmas. On the Koningsdam we sailed two weeks before Christmas and there were decorations but not a lot of them and they were not the traditional Holland America decorations that we've seen before. So, it guess it will all depend on when the crew wants to decorate. Personally, one of my favorite things about sailing in December is the Christmas decoration!

When we were on the Nieuw Amsterdam the week of Thanksgiving and the week after, they began decorating the ship after the Thanksgiving cruise.

Friends stayed on until the week before Christmas. As they were living the ship, the live poinsettias were just being brought onto the ship.

We will be sailing Dec 23 to Dec 30 - love the fact the ship will be decorated. This is a first for us not doing Christmas at home and instead doing a 3 generation cruise..my folks, my husband and I and my son and his new bride. So excited!!

We will be sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam Dec. 30, 2018 to-Jan. 6, 2019. What kind of decoration and festivities do they do for New Years and New Year's Eve?

We sailed the NA in 2016 over New years and the decorations were still up until about January 2 and poof they were gone! New Years had a "party" in the lido area that went past midnight. Also a special dinner was served, however I don't remember the details of it. It was the liveliest night of the 10 night sailing. Oh and I think there was something special during the day, so summary is, they do fun stuff and gave out party hats.

Thanks for your reply. I was getting a little worried that no midnight party would be held. My husband and I and two other couples always celebrate New Years together with dinner and dancing and wanted something different this year. We booked this cruise specifically for a New Years celebration [from Southern Spirit) quote=RGBFamily;57204867]We sailed the NA in 2016 over New years and the decorations were still up until about January 2 and poof they were gone!
