Is a camera bag counted as a carry on?

Not a problem having it with other carry-on in getting on the ship.

I assume that you mean on the ship and not on the plane. If so, you can take as many carry on items as ympu can carry.

As others have said on the ship not an issue.

On the plane it would be your personal item like a purse. Someone on most airline flights can carry one carry (size based on the airline) plus one small personal item such as purse, camera bag, small back pack, etc.

For the ship, you can take as many carry-ons as you want and can handle -- there is no limit.

Planes -- different story.

As stated above, you can take as many as you can carry. My camera bag fits into my carry on and I usually carry that and my purse.

You are not limited to 1 carry-on. As long as it fits thru the scanner, bring what you want! Just make sure you're able to carry all you "carry on", as you will need to lug it about until the cabins are ready.

NEVER, EVER put anything of value into your checked, locked bags.

Can I have a middle size backpack?

If you can carry it and it fits through the scanner, you can carry it on. There are no limitations.
