I made a free site with weebly.com, its a subdomain and its free. If you make one, you either click for a domain(money) or a subdomain(free). If you choose subdomain, weebly will be included in your address. Ex: mine is cruizywill.weebly.com. Hope this helps!!

This sounds like good way to go. The only negative thing I heard about Weebly is that if you use them for commercial purposes and you place ads on the site, they somehow collect 50% of the profits.
So for a family type of site that should not be a problem.
Thanks

I originally started my website when I was looking for a way to share my photos with freinds and family across the country. I started with Freewebs.com which changed their name to webs.com. They do offer free sites, but you are limited and you do have to deal with ads. The problem I was having was that even as i graduated to the premium services, I was continuously outgrowing them. I JUST moved over to Zenfolio.com and I'm happy with that. This site however is simply for showcasing photos - you don't have the luxury of blogs and such.

Randy, you are one great photographer!!!! Congrats.

If you ever should decide to have a commercial free website of your own and are willing to pay less than 50 bucks a year, let me know. Perhaps I can offer some suggestions. My email address is on our site.

We have our own cruise journals set up on our website. We had previously used a photo landing website that "lost" some of our cruise pictures over time and offered only a slide show with not much more than a long caption. We wanted to be able to do a complete journal and review of our cruise from when we left home to when we returned. The link is in our signature and covers 12 of our cruises (2 of them are back to back and in the same journal)
The domain name is ours. It is pretty much done with the software on the site, upload the pictures and choose journal and you can write an entire page around 1 picture if you like. the also have slideshow options but you lose the journal narrative. We are not very computer savvy and we found it easy

Sounds familiar!!! Care to give us your web site?
I was totally dumbfounded when I got started with our web site. Then I got hooked, now it is a matter of updating. I still get lots of comments and questions; all of this while our friends and relatives can take a look at, what amounts to, a travel journal.
The thing I like about having your own web site is that you can publish what you want, edit if need be, and make comments that are appropriate.

Lair Bear I love the Gallapagos Islands JOurnal/Blog...so informative...and great the way you set it all up. I use shutterfly rightnow to make picture albums but would love to learn to do a trip in the type of format you used. We are going to galapagos in May 2011..although I've read about it on the "Monster Thread" your pictures really brought everything to life..Thank you so much. Cruisy

In a quick glance at the posts on this thread I didn't see anyone mention blogging. I do a travel blog at Blogger.com. It doesn't cost me anything and there is no advertising if I don't monetize it. Granted, you can't put up pages of pictures as you could on a website but it is FREE. And I enjoy journaling along with the pics about our trips.

I am trying to find a good way to collect info for our Mediterranean cruise next summer without creating a website (although I may have to go that direction). I was thinking that there is something similar to LiveBinders but it lets you add multiple urls or images on each page (similar to WallWisher). Any suggestions on sites that may work?
I know I can bookmark and create folders but I want something that is easily accessible as a resource for all of us on our cruise and that others can add to as they find information. If this doesn't work, I think I'll be headed to Weebly to make a webpage!!!

I have just paid for 10 years of web hosting for $150 AUD, so a $1.25 per month which I think is cheap.
Domain name to go with the web site, $16 for 2 years.
This is with Crazy Domains in Perth Australia. 25 Gig of space and unlimited data transfer. Less than $2.00 per month to have it there.

Try logging on to wordpress.com where you can create your own blog and post your own pictures. You can also view my cruise blog to get ideas. I did not have ANY experience at all with blogging and found this site to be very user friendly. Hope this helps and glad you want to share your cruise travels with us.

If you want endless photo storage then why not use Google+

Google+ Photos: Only photos over 2048x2048 pixels and videos longer than 15 minutes count toward your storage limit.
You have 15 GB of free storage to share across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos. If you use Google Apps at work or school, you have at least 30 GB of storage. While you may have a lot of files and folders in your Google Drive, only items that you've synced or uploaded use storage space. Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides or items shared with you don’t count toward your storage space.
Why pay?

I registered with BlueHost for unlimited storage for my website: www.rogerjett-photography.com. My site is built with WordPress. The WordPress templates number in the thousands with most being free. Since WordPress is the most popular website builder, there are lots of help sites. Building a website is just filling in the blanks and you don't need to know any coding.

NextGen Gallery is a free add-in image management database to manage all of your images. Copy and paste from your PC to the gallery and then link a group of images to a page.

By building your own website, you do not relinquish your copyright ownership and can limit who can view your images.
