I was under the influenc...er, impression that the medallions kept popping out of the original bands that were included by Princess...

another brilliant marketing move by Princess to encourage cruisers to 'upgrade' to a better 'holder'

They were popping out, as did mine on the band that i purchased and then returned. Princess switched from the band to a plastic holder and lanyard. They quickly corrected the issue by substituting another holder.

The included lanyard is no extra charge. The Medallions also work quite well while remaining in

a pocket, fanny-pack, or purse.

That being said, when's the last time you heard of a cruise line not prepared to sell us high-priced,

but unnecessary, stuff to --erhm-- enhance our experience?

I would have to see this lanyard.. I vowed when I left the work force, I would never wear a lanyard or hairnet again...

At check-in in the terminal, we were handed a gray lanyard that says Princess Cruises and Medallion Class, and attached to it was a plastic container for the cruise card and the plastic container for the medallion. I never wear a lanyard and usually keep the cruise card in my pocket. However, because we are requested to carry both of these things, my husband and I are wearing our lanyards. He also never wore a lanyard before on a cruise. We are paying only with the cruise card. I have not come across a place that asked me to pay with the Medallion. I did see a pay point for that in one of the shops but I wasn’t purchasing anything. Even in the casino, the cashier told me it’s easier to use my card on the machine. That may have been because I was setting up an account. Regal Princess.

How do you find out if you are going to get a medallion on your cruise. We are sailing the CB in a few weeks

You would receive an e-mail from Princess. ( Maybe it went into the "spam" folder on your e-mail page).

We are sailing with another couple on the Regal, October 6. They just received an e-mail saying that their cabin was included in the Medallion pilot program for the Regal. They are on Baja deck, in a forward cabin - a balcony cabin.

We are also on Baja deck, but a little more towards mid-ship. We did not receive an e-mail, so we are assuming that our cabin is not part of the Medallion pilot program on board Regal. -- EBC

Is this based on personal experience, or just made up?

While they may be improving, I haven't seen (m)any posts saying the medallions worked quite well.

Perhaps you can provide links to a few posts from actual users describing their success with medallion

in their purse or fanny pack.

I have actual experience with it and it does work (11 March 2018 - Regal Princess - Lido Deck Cabin ) . You can leave it in your pocket and they can see you on their terminal . I remember sitting at the bar and seeing people’s faces come up as they walked by. Apparently when you want something they push on your face and the folio as well as Captains Circle info comes up and that is what they use to complete your purchase .

When I was on board I actually asked them to use that instead of the card . They liked using the card only because that is what they were used and most passengers still had to use the card .

I guess I took my “role” as “test pilot” more seriously lol .

I asked the front desk if I could participate, since at the end of my current segment on the CB I will be changing cabins. They said it was entirely determined by the Medallion team who participated, so it was not possible to take requests.

Our medallions don’t work exactly as suggested in regards to the cabin doors. We’ve each had them replaced and it’s even worse. We can always use them to get into the cabin. Sometimes we have to wave the Medallion in front of the screen and occasionally actually touch it. It’s designed to work smoothly with approaching the door and opening it.

I just got off the phone withPrincess Customer Service concerning the status of Medallions for my upcomingcruise on November 11th . For background, I was on Regal last November. We booked it specifically for the Ocean Medallion. We had 4 cabins and onecabin had the medallions but they did not work at all. We did receive an OBC of $100.00 ascompensation. We all were really looking forward to experiencing the new technology(we were all in the technology business one way or another) so we booked theRegal again for a year later, they would have to have it working by then, right?

Every so often I would checkthe princess web site to see if there was any changes to our cruise and low andbehold in July the cruise (actually all cruises that were Medallion) waschanged to Medallion Preview. I was upset but not much I can do about it. We (3club class mini suites) had nonrefundable air so we were locked in.

The part that really upset mewas the Princess CSR telling me that the cruise had ALWAYS been a Medallion Preview and it had notchanged, so no compensation would be offered. I also asked her for an executivelevel contact I could send a letter to and I was told that I had to send anycorrespondence to the Princess Complaint Department email address. In the grandscheme of things an OBC would not mean much but the attitude of Princess meansa great deal to me. This is going to influence our choice of cruise lines goingforward. I always gave an edge to Princess (we are all Platinum) but that hasfaded away.

If anyone has a corporatelevel contact I can express my displeasure to I would appreciate it.

We are booked on the Regal for Oct. 2018 and on the Island for Nov. 2018. All of the 2018 cuises on the Regal and Island were changed to "Medallion Preview" back in Dec. of 2017, according to Princess.

Princess customer service also told us ( as they told you) that they are not offering any additional compensation or any OBC for the Medallion Preview cruises.

I am not sure what the fascination is with a disc that is basically used to unlock doors and place drink orders. However, cruisers wishing to book a ship that has full usage of the medallion will probably need to wait a year or two until the installation and testing of the equipment has been completed. -- EBC

All the proof you need is in the 2018-2019 Cruise Atlas where all the Regal cruises are marked Ocean Medallion Vacation

However in the 2019-2020 edition just issued (now called Destination Collection), the words "Ocean Medallion" are not even mentioned for any of the Regal Caribbean cruises or even for any other Princess ship there.

We just debarked from Regal Princess from our ***** cabin. Overall, the medallion had little effect on our ship board life. It opened the cabin door and the only time I could tell that any crew used it to reference me was when I cashed out at the casino cage. She did not ask me to scan my card or medallion directly. It happened automatically. I did have to enter my pin. My cabin steward did not seem to be using the device to open doors, he put his card up against the screen. We enjoyed the cruise immensely and look forward to sailing that ship again.

Rumor says "being alpha tested currently by Princess home office people, rollout to pax 'sometime

in September'".

Nice, crisp, black-and-white ...not.

and per the 'pep talk' - what all will those medallions do that your cruise card won't?;p

They did not discuss that. They concentrated on B2B procedures. They said those not changing cabins could continue using their current cards, except that Riviera Deck would be getting medallions.

My cruise was in March and it never popped out . When I received mine via FedEx it came with a lanyard / plastic holder and I bought the strap because for me it was more convenient that way . My biggest gripe is that little piece of rubber was not cheap.

BTW I just took the picture with the blue strap for the post on this thread. cbe571f77eae3da61d745878909eb3ca.jpg

When we were handed or ocean medallion at check in on the Regal Princess on August 1, our cruise card was already in the plastic sleeve for it. Did they hand you your separately?
