Jacksonville locals - Beaches

This is not really a cruise question...I have been to and sailed from JAX many times, live just two hours up the road. I have company from up north, and they want to go to a beach. they tried Jekyll Island today, the water was too dirty, so they went to the water park. Wondering how the JAX beaches are, and if there are any to recommend over others...I don't want to send them through Savannah to the crowds at Tybee. EM

I lived near Jax Beach for several years. The water is fairly murky due to the currents and waves churning up the sand. It's a little better down at Ponte Vedra and better still down at St. Augustine, but still not the clear water you get much further south and over on the Gulf side.
