Back to Back on the Freedom out of Galveston

I’m new to doing a back to back cruise so I’m hoping those of you that have done it can help me. I’ve read that we are escorted off the ship last, go through customs and then back on board. What about our new sail and sign card for the next cruise? I am wanting to meet my daughter and son in law for lunch at the pier and to get off the ship for a couple of hours. Will there be a special entrance for us or will we have to stand in line with all the people embarking the ship? Sorry about the ignorance but this is a first for me so I need help from the experts!

We did b2b two years ago on the Magic and loved it. They took us off the ship, ran us though customs and back on ship. They took our photo (of all the b2bers ) and gave us a free drink. You get a new card (because it is a different cruise). We also got a fruit basket and a bottle of champagne waiting in our room. You don't get that on Royal. On Royal we were suppose to have lunch with all the b2bers, but we got in late due to fog so we didn't even get that! We didn't get off ship, so I can't help you there but just ask and they will help you.

You wil be given your new S&S card prior to being escorted off the ship. If you wish to leave, you will also be given an "in transit" card which will allow you to skip the lines and get back on the ship when you return.

Be sure to tell Carnival to "link" your 2 bookings before you board & then verify with Guest Services after you're on the ship. They will send a letter to your cabin the day before you return with the instructions. If you don't have the same cabin for both cruises, your cabin steward can help move your things to the new cabin.

My husband and I did a back to back on the Breeze in January and the in transit card seemed to mean absolutely nothing to the workers in the terminal. We had to get in the same line as everyone else embarking and at every stop, a supervisor was called to help the worker. It was not fun. Our cruises were "linked".

We did want to explore Galveston, so we were able to get off on our own, so at that time it was possible.

Just be aware to take your second boarding pass or confirmation with you (and your passport) as I was almost denied boarding, since I "only" had the in-transit card and passport. Hopefully, things have improved now.

We did quite enjoy our back to back and hope to do it again soon.

There is no requirement to have GS "link" your bookings. In fact, there really isn't such a thing. Yes, they can put a note in your computer record, but it's not a "link" to the next booking.....

Sometime during the cruise Guest Services runs a report that produces a list of current guests that are booked for the next week. THAT'S IT! (anybody who knows half-a-wit about SQL could write up such a report in two minutes)....

Yes, there is such a thing as linking your booking, but you have to call Customer Service. And they don't always realize that every cabin is booked back-to-back, as we found out when we didn't get the customary letter.

We did a b2b in Dec 17 on Freedom. We had two options 1) escorted off ship / processed right back on with crew member or 2) leave the ship on our own and return later. The letter states that a new S&S card would be provided prior to disembarkation but that didn't happen. We did get the "in-transit" card which worked perfectly. We ran some errands in Galveston, got some lunch, and went back to port. When we were ready to board, just showed the in-transit card at priority check-in and an employee escorted us through all the lines, got our new picture taken and back to the room. The new S&S cards were available outside our cabin. You will get a letter explaining the process on the last night. Don't know if you are changing cabins, but if you are, they will move all your luggage. You just leave it in your old stateroom and then it gets shifted to the new one. Pretty awesome!:cool:
