The quest for gelato or cruising the Mediterranean on the Horizon 4/29-5/9/18

Background: We went to Europe in 2011 and had passport all cash and credit cards stolen. I had been hesitating but it was time to go back.

We had a Havana cabana booked on the Vista in June 2017 and all I heard was great things about the cabins. I looked at all the other lines and since weLove Carnival, the comedy club, the piano bar and the price points, I booked the Horizon in the beginning of May for the following year.

I booked as much as possible in advance, I used Carnival’s Fly to fun. After 11 1/2 months it was finally Vacation time.

I worked a lot of 6 day weeks and lots of long days so I was tired leaving for the trip, the trip was wonderful and exhausting and I begrudged the sleep I needed and was very jealous of the people who can sleep 3 hours and be good for 2 days.

To start all reviews I like to add gratuitous pictures of my two beagles, who we miss the whole time and are the best thing about coming home.

Uber brings us to the airport and we have a few hours. Time for lunch, the Columbia, a Spanish restaurant or an Irish restaurant. My husband picks the Columbia.

Before I go further I will let it be known I take a lot of food pics and second fried calamari is one of my favorite foods.

I had Sangria, deviled crab and cheese, shrimp and artichoke dip and DH had chicken and yellow rice.

Delta kept changing the flight times and finally we had less than an hour between our connecting flight to Barcelona, so I upgraded to first class for the flight from Tampa to Atlanta, thinking we would be off the plane first but we got off after the main cabin, we still made it.

I also upgraded for the transatlantic flight, 4 extra inches and free drinks the space was definitely worth the $100. Neither of us slept during the flight though we tried.

Friday April 27- Barcelona

Because our hotel was not going to be ready until 4 and we were landing at 8:30, I booked a full day tour with Barcelona day tours, who were amazing from booking through the end of the tour. We started with going to Montserrat

We have such great dog sitters that I don’t feel guilty leaving on vacation now.

After the no sleeping, big lunch and riding around in a car, I was falling asleep.

I booked Avenida Palace and the La Sagrada suite 11 months in advance, I loved everything except the no air conditioning.

Wanted tapas for dinner walked down street until Tapas Tapas. Amazing food, maybe my favorite in Barcelona.

After dinner walked by to the hotel and we were asleep in minutes. End of day 1 in Barcelona.
