Smoking

I am asking this question for someone we are cruising with that has never cruised before so any help would be nice.

They are wanting to know since they have a balcony room on the 8th floor port side is smoking allowed on their balcony? or where can they smoke if not allowed on the balcony?

SMOKING POLICY

All staterooms and suite accommodations are an entirely smoke free environment, including the outside balcony. This policy includes all forms of smoking, including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, electronic cigarettes (E-cigarettes), tobacco pipes and personal vaporizers.

Cigarette, electronic cigarette and personal vaporizer smoking will only be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas, as well as our night clubs (except on Carnival Horizon, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Vista), and in certain areas within the casino (for playing guests while at designated slot machines and table games) and the casino bar. Cigar and tobacco pipe smoking will only be allowed in designated exterior open deck areas.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms or on their balconies will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival's cruise ticket contract. Guest agrees to strictly comply with Carnival's non-smoking policy.

Carnival Freedom

Cigarette smoking (including electronic cigarettes and personal vaporizers) are permitted in the following areas:

  • Babylon Casino: Smoking is permitted while playing at designated slot machines and table games.
  • Centuries Casino Bar: Smoking is permitted in designated area.
  • 70’s Nightclub: Smoking is permitted but not on the dance floor.
  • Outdoors: Smoking is permitted in designated areas on Deck 3 (starboard side) and Deck 10 (starboard side, midship and aft).
  • Note: Cigar and tobacco pipes are only permitted in the above designated outdoor smoking area on Deck 10.

Restrictions on smoking aboard have gotten tighter and tighter over the past decade or so.

Like sparks, I don't think there's a single cruiseline now which permits either smoking or vaping on balconies or in most public rooms.

Unless their policy has changed (and they frequently do) I think Princess actually permit vaping (not smoking) in the cabin but not on the balcony - that kinda makes sense because vaping doesn't (???) leave any lingering smell or residue.

But your friends won't be short of places to smoke, there are designated smoking areas dotted around all cruise ships though mainly on outside decks. In my experience those are very sociable places for those of us with unsociable habits. :)

If your friends are contemplating a cruise to somewhere like Greenland or Siberia or the Antarctic, I reckon that smoking can be at a greater risk of double pneumonia out on deck :D so they'd best choose a ship with an indoor smoking area.

Other than that, no worries :)

OK, anti-smokers, I've got my tin hat on - feel free to vent your spleen about smoking in general ;p

I think Costa still allows smoking on balconies, but they're the only line I can think of that does.

I just checked it out - and you're right !!

From Costa's website .......

The smoking of cigarettes, cigars and pipes is not permitted in all internal public areas of the ship, except in “Cigar Lounge” areas. Electronic cigarettes may only be used in cabins and in “Cigar Lounge” areas. Smoking in public areas outdoors is only allowed in special Smoking Points equipped with ashtrays. We would kindly remind you that smoking is not permitted in cabins, but only outside on private balconies. To avoid the risk of fire, cigarettes must be put out and left in the ashtrays provided and never thrown overboard still lit.

As existing restrictions mean that I am rarely, if ever, exposed to other peoples’ smoke, there is no “spleen” here, just curiosity felt by a former smoker (for decades) : have you considered quitting?

Once again this isn’t for me it is for someone I am cruising with! No need for rude comments!

I've seen no rude comments.

I've been quite happy to admit being a smoker. but this thread has been particularly polite & non-judgemental.

Of course that might change - it usually does :D

I’m just asking for no rude comments. No one has posted any yet
We're just getting warmed up. :P

Actually, the list of smoking-permitted locations on Carnival Freedom is much more lenient than I've seen on other ships/lines (aside from cigars). I guess the size of the permitted areas is also a factor.
