Explorer

Recommended Posts

Will be on the Explorer from 16th June (Mediterranean Secrets). Look forward to hearing about first reports of this ship.

A bit disappointed to find that the cruise will now operate in the reverse order from the initial schedule. We now have our day at sea right at the end rather than at the start. Not been told why this has changed.

Wondering in general about traveller's views on the Captain's Gala Dinner. We have always dressed up for this but find that this has become less popular with guests. Gentlemen, how do you feel about this? Would you wear

a. dinner suit and bow tie (or Scottish equivalent)

b. lounge suit, shirt and tie

c. jacket with shirt and tie

d. jacket, shirt, no tie

e. very informal

f. not attend

If explorer is anything like discovery there isn't a Captains Gala dinner. There is a dress to impress night where the captain will introduce staff etc in the atrium but no special dining arrangements. I wear slightly posher evening casual and leave the DJ/suit for P&O

Last June on Discovery 1 the dress to impress night was quite relaxed. Folk that wanted to get suited and booted did, others were in smart casual, I think it was a much better vibe than the previous Captain's Night where there was more of a 'have to' culture.

Also, our day at sea was at the end of the cruise. It was preferable to us. After 5 days of exploring the different stop off points it was lovely to have a leisurely stroll around the ship during the day, with lots of entertainment, and a decent lunch in the restaurant rather than getting up early for brekkie and maybe a snack during the day.

Horses for courses, but that's how we felt about it.
