We had a lovely evening and with a tour planned early in the morning and a tender port (YIKES), we made it a relatively early evening.

Our port was St. Peter's port in Guernsey.

Here is the When and Where for that day.

Fantastic pictures Jacqui! So glad you found a great spot for watching the wedding.

Ann you too! And thanks for your pictures of the Canadian cemetery. We are doing a riverboat tour next year going to The Somme’ and D-Day areas for 11 days. The only cruising I’m allowed these days but your pictures upped the anticipation!

We are in Fowey, Cornwall today. It's a tender port but honest to pete, you could swim to the shore.

Just an Ipad pic - Better ones I will post on my camera later.

But we are on the largest yacht in the port ;)

Only the P'dam could pull this one off. A beautiful sail in and a truly beautiful town.

I'll get back to yesterday though - St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

But, I couldn't resist posting this.

So yesterday was St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

OMG what a beautiful spot. Absolutely beautiful. There isn't a spot here that isn't. I was taking pic after pic after pic and I fear I have too many and may bore all of you.

The tender was a bit of a trip but only took about 20 minutes.

We had a private tour that gigianne arranged with Jason of 1st Call Taxis. While he operates taxis, his guides are licensed and he was a fount of knowledge and gave us some great insight into this very special place.

Guernsey is made of granite and the people put it to good use.

Walls surround houses, absolutely beautiful..It’s an expensive place to live.

Interesting enough anything made of cement was built by the Germans during the Occupation. Otherwise everything is built out of granite.

The “loopholes” were the island’s fortification in the 1700’s.

Apparently a German pilot landed here in WWII at Guernsey air port. He saw that no one noticed, went back and reported and the Germans moved in. Guernsey’s men had already gone to war, the children sent to the mainland so basically all the island had was women and a few farmers. No one to protect the island from the Germans when they occupied.

Anything you see in cement was done by the Germans.

anything in granite is by the residents. The loopholes are in granite.

The Germans really destroyed some of the views when they occupied.

Loved the pictures. Jacqui we had the same problem with the key cards on a change over in Rome on the P'dam on the way home from out Black Sea cruise, after a little back & forth with the front desk it was finally sorted out. Looking forward to reading about the next segment of your cruise.

Allan

Good to know we are not alone, Allan ;)

I have to agree. Tactically, Fowey is the most incredible sail in I've ever experienced.

It was amazing. I don't know if the sun will hold until the 11 pm sail a way or not.

Thank you for the kind words. Glad you are enjoying it.

Now to suck up what is left of last segment's internet plan (we are back on board) and try to get a few things posted from lovely, lovely St. Peter and Guernsey.

The roads are very narrow. This road is meant for 2 way traffic. It can take some manoeuvering for 2 vehicles to go. A bus wouldn't be able to do some of the sharp turns. Amazing how our driver managed to do it all.

The prehistoric grave that was discovered.

A benevolent person bought the land to stop the quarrying and save it.

It’s a very low entrance, VERY low

The paintings on the ceiling are impressive.

When it was discovered there were 2 skeletons kneeling, back to back surrounded by limpid shells (similar to mollusks).Jason said how amazing it was that these ancient people knew that shells would last. The granite here is very acidic and will eat bone, etc so, the shells protected them.

They can't carbon date it because of the granite but it's estimated to be from 400 - 600 AD.
