Cape Liberty Area Hotel Suggestion Driving From Boston

Hi

We will be on the 10/27 Anthem cruise for 7 nights. We are driving to NJ from Boston on the night before (10/26 Fri). We would like a suggestion on which hotel to book.

DH would like an easy drive (traffic wise) into Cape Liberty on Saturday. We are open to parking at the port or doing a package that includes parking, shuttle and hotel. We are cruising with another couple and will book 2 rooms. Probably will pick up dinner on the drive down. Would like to keep the hotel under $175. I am assuming port parking will be $140 for a Saturday to Saturday stay. We don't plan to go into the city or do any sight seeing before/after cruise. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Eating dinner before you arrive is an excellent idea.

For an easy drive into the port, look at the hotels on the north side of the airport near exit 14 - Ramada, Courtyard Newark, Springhill Suites, and Fairfield Inn. Skip the Doubletree for now - it has been under construction. These hotels are all within your budget for your date. Some provide free breakfast, but only the a Ramada and Courtyard have real restaurants on property.

Trinityreservations.com has the best park/cruise package. For $222 tax included you can get a room at the Ramada for 4 which includes round trip port transportation. Your friends can book a separate room through Kayak for about $100, but all of you would get the port transportation with your booking. If your friends need parking, you can each book a Trinity package for 2 for $182 tax included.

Thank you so much for your recommendations. They were very helpful.

Has anyone driven to the port on a Friday afternoon/evening from Boston? Wondering what is the best time to leave to avoid the most traffic.

Living very close to the 495/95 interchange, there's never a good time etched in stone. 95 south is a parking lot from 3:30 on to about 7: pm. from the 93/128 to RI line. Watch the local TV stations such as WCVB for their traffic maps and adjust your driving times based on what you see. Waze and Sat Nav, too. We are planning a Bermuda trip out of NJ in '19 and have made plans to stay in CT the night before the cruise, leaving early the day of the cruise for the drive to NJ....done that before and it works great for us.

If only the cruise lines would offer something other than the Dawn [or old ships] out of Boston on a regular schedule....dreaming.

Where exactly are you leaving from?

North Attleboro, MA (closer to the RI line)

Then take 295 around Providence to avoid the traffic that backs up from the state line, a challenge to anyone's nerves from Charles St, Atwells, and Rt 6, and ends at the 95 split south of Warwick. It took us an hour, fifteen minutes last week to drive from the Mansfield area to Federal Hill - and that was on a Wednesday at 4:30 PM. You'll still encounter traffic through parts of CT, Bridgeport, New Haven, Riverside, etc. Maybe plan to stop for dinner closer to the CT/NY line.

I believe we are going to park at the port and book either the Fairfield or Springhill Suites. Both these hotels have breakfast included and the current pay ahead rate I am getting is $119. Has anyone stayed here? Are these decent hotels for a 1 nite stay pre-cruise. Is the drive into cruiseport from here pretty straight forward?

We opted to drive to the port for the convenience of just getting off the ship and heading home and not having to shuttle back to the hotel. Also not much of a cost savings going with the Ramada when we factor in the cont. breakfast.

We are sharing the parking costs with another couple so our out of pocket will be around $190 per couple and includes bf. Trinity was $222 and we were on our own for breakfast.

Thanks for any info.

I've only stayed at the Fairfield and that was 7 years ago. It was fine at that time. The hotels are next door to one another. Folks have mentioned that it was confusing to find. As I recall you have to watch carefully for the right turn into the property as it comes up very quickly before you expect it. There is one shared entrance for the Marriott Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, and Springhill Suites. If in doubt, turn in.

Once on the bigger property, you have to bear left towards the Courtyard and go all the way to the back of the property to get on a service lane across the back to access the Fairfield or Springhill Suites. I think both properties charge $10 to park. Neither property has food service other than the free breakfast, so be sure you have brought stuff for late night snacks.

You are right near exit 14 on the Turnpike. These are among tge closet hotels to the port. The hotel can tell you the best way back onto the highway. Follow the signs to exits 14A, 14B, and 14C and get off at 14A.
