Smoking at the Retreat Deck?

If they allow smoking there, I will cancel my cruise. Not goIng to pay $$$$ for amenities that I may find too stinky to utilize.

Agree, I would be surprised if smoking is allowed, but who knows,

Isn’t this completely unfounded speculations? As stated on a very similar thread on the Edge Sub-forum, there is no indication of that and since Celebrity is a Line that restricted smoking very early in the game and has continued that status, why is this a concern.

As you said this is all speculation. Currently there is no smoking in any internal areas. I do not see why they would make the retreat smoking when Michael's is currently non smoking. If anything there will be a small area outside hopefully nowhere near the door, that could be made smoking which would just become another area on the ship that non smokers avoid walking through. At the end of the day time will tell but logic says that it will not be a smoking area.

I am asking about the Retreat DECK, not the interior space, and wondering if part of this pool and sunbathing area will be for smoking.
Just curious as to why you think that this is a possibility? Did you hear it from anyone with Celebrity? I would be very, very surprised if it happened!

I would hope so, it only seems fair. If a smoker purchases a suite then he/she should be able to smoke somewhere in the exclusive suite area.

I'm sure they will be chasing you down to smoke with the peasants.

I don't know why you think that would be fair, since the majority of those suite people will be non smokers who do not want to smell smoke. They also paid alot of money for suite exclusivity.

Smoking is indisputably bad, unhealthy behavior - why on earth would it be fair to provide space for people to engage in such behavior at the expense of others?!? Utterly ridiculous. If Celebrity wants to cater to people engaging in such filthy behavior they will lose far more customers than they will gain. Can't see Celebrity doing something so shortsighted. Am cautiously optimistic there will be NO smoking in any of the suite-only areas. I am sure I won't be the only one cancelling if they permit smoking there. Fortunately much of the world no longer views exposure to smoke as acceptable and smoking areas are becoming fewer and fewer and smoking bans the norm.

I will be surprised if there is a space for smoking in the suite-only area. I don’t think smoking fits Celebrity’s ideal for suite-dwellers. I think the suite-dwelling smokers will have to mix it with the regular passengers in those smoking areas.

I undersetand the theory of a suite-smoking area, but Celebrity hasn’t setup a suite-casino, a suite-shop (not a sweat-shop!), a suite-theater (yes, special seating but not exclusive area), a suite-entry/exit of the ship (yes, priority but again not exclusive), etc.

OK, I’ll propose that Celebrity will set up a Suite-only smoking area but cordon off part of the existing smoking areas as “Suite-Only DoNot Enter!”

How is that idea? Makes more sense as smoking area on the Retreat Deck Area.

Exactly. Though I’m not a smoker, I think it’s ridiculous that people might expect that:

1. Only non-smokers book suites.

2. There wouldn’t be a smoking area on the OPEN recreation deck within the suite area, just like there are smoking areas on the other OPEN recreation decks.

I’d certainly be all for Celebrity becoming a completely non-smoking line, but until such a time, I believe smokers should be accommodated in a reasonable and equitable fashion.

I am not a smoker but I would not be the least bit surprised if a portion of the Retreat outdoor DECKSPACE was designated as a smoking area. I think it is naive to think that only non-smokers book a suite on a ship.

LOL -- I don't think that anyone here is THAT naive! ;p

I just think that most of us would like to have a little faith in the cruise line that pioneered the strictest non-smoking policy -- and is still the leader, in that area. Off the cuff, I can't think of any other mainstream cruise line that totally bans indoor smoking -- including the casino. And, when you get right down to it -- the Retreat isn't going to be a vast area. So, from a practical standpoint, it would be hard to effectively isolate smokers (and their smoke).
