Singapore Hotels

Even if you are not docked at Marina Bay, and are docked near Sentosa Island I would not be concerned about getting a hotel. Traffic is heavily regulated in Singapore and the costs of taxis is very reasonable. Sentosa will place you near the beaches, theme parks, etc.

As far as the OP's question. If you can swing it, I would highly recommend a stay at Marina Bay Sands. Yes it's like staying in a large Las Vegas casino resort, but you basically are paying to go to the rooftop pool. The pictures don't do it justice when you step out of the elevator and see this enormous infinity pool that you know is cantilevered over three towers. Getting into the water and looking over the edge and seeing nothing but skyscrapers, it's pretty spectacular.

Visitors can go to an observation deck located on one corner of the tower, but only guests are allowed to use the pool.

Thanks for your thoughts on getting a hotel for one night. This is the information I was looking for.

We will be in Singapore on a Grand Asia cruise that has an overnight in Singapore. I'm wondering if it is worth getting a hotel for the night.

I think the cruise port is fairly close to town but I'm not sure how easy it is. We'd like to go back to our cabin or hotel in the late afternoon and then go out again in the evening.

I would appreciate any of your thoughts on this.

Thanks

If you dock at Harbourfront, which is Vivo City Mall, there is the first (or last) stop for that subway line. Very easy to get to town. You won't need a hotel room.

Has anyone stayed at the Marina Mandarin?

We've stayed there twice. It's a very good hotel with an excellent location just steps away from shopping and an MTR stop. And the hop-on-hop off bus (if you are going to use it) stops at Suntec, which is across the street.

I am looking for suggestions on where to stay in Singapore for one or two nights. We are boarding the Golden Princess afterwards. I've never been to Asia before.

No question about it in my mind, Marina Bay Sands...

Not only will you have the best pool view in Singapore...

Wow! I've seen pictures of this hotel before and thought it looked interesting. I will check it out. It's close to other stuff also like restaurants, shopping, places to visit?

MBS is definitely a once in a life time experience. Just posted pictures of the Infinity pool here.

I looked at your pictures and they were great. I don't know about the rooftop pool as I'm not a fan of heights. But 57 floors up isn't too bad. I'd probably have to check it out if we stayed there.

If you are looking for inexpensive overnight accommodation I highly recommend the South Bridge Hotel. We booked a room through Wotif for the night before a recent cruise and it was AU$114 for the night. The room is very small but more than adequate for a one or two night stay. It was very clean and had all amenities including toothbrush and shaving kits in the bathroom as well as the usual shampoo, conditioner, skin lotion etc.

As an added bonus you received a voucher for a free drink in the bar, I had a Single Malt Scotch, and as a guest of the hotel you got 50% off meals in the bar. We had steaks, a good size, good quality and perfectly cooked with salad for $11 each with the discount. We also got 25% off English Breakfast in the morning.

It is right next to Chinatown and a short walk to the Chinatown MRT station. A taxi from the airport was $25.00 and less from the hotel to the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal.

Not a bad deal for AU$114 per night. We'd certainly stay there again.

I recommend you leave your hotel early and drop your luggage at the terminal, bag drop opens at 8:30am. You can leave your carry on at the Left Baggage Counter for a fee then spend the morning at the Gardens by the Bay.

We just spent 6 nights at Oasia Downtown pre-cruise and it was amazing! We stayed in a Club room and loved it! The Club lounge and pool area were perfect for afternoon lounging after a morning and before evenings spent exploring. New hotel - just opened April 2016 (we had originally planned to stay at Oasia Novena but the Downtown location was better for us) MTR across the street, walking distance to tons of good restaurants and 2 great hawker centers - Lau Pa Sat & Maxwell.

Great price - sign up for emails, we got an extra 5% off a 40% off sale :p We paid S$1700 (that includes taxes & fees!) for 6 nights in a Club room (includes breakfast, cocktail evenings with hors d'oeuvres & private pool/lounge area, a few other things - free HOHO bus tour one morning, late checkout option - great for our cruise embarkation day!)

Do you mean the Mandarin Oriental? If so, yes! We loved it, we stayed in a club room which has its own separate reception and basically free everything, breakfast, cocktails in the evening etc. Worth every penny.

Glad to see a post about this hotel...we are planning a 3 night stay here prior to our mid Febuary cruise. We also got a great rate for a club level room about $210/night. How were the evening cocktail receptions...busy?...drink selections? How was the morning breakfast? Any other advice (1st time Asian visitors)?

If you are in a taxi, make sure you give them the address and stress Oasia DOWNTOWN. It's a fairly new hotel and we had some taxi issues (no problem with Uber though!) Say it's the one next door to the Tanjong Pagar MTR station. (very convenient and easy to use!)

It was not terribly crowded when we were there - not busy at breakfast or the evening cocktail reception. Breakfast - nice western options (eggs to order - just ask the waiter) One or two Asian options but mostly western. I had smoked salmon, a bagel, and an egg most mornings, I think. Evenings - they did have cocktails but I don't recall which liquor options. We had wine most nights (2 red 2 white choices). They will serve you in pool seats (but might be slower if it's busy - we would often go into the dining area and make the request and a server would bring it to us at the pool - slightly quicker than waiting for a serve to make rounds).

The bell desk in the lobby and the concierge desk on the Club level have maps and are great with assistance & directions. We got sim cards for our American phones and were able to use google maps etc but still found ourselves using a paper map too :-) 2 items of laundry per day when you stay in a club room. But no clothesline in the hotel room:cool: (I travel with my own - and given the glass movable walls in the bathroom it was a little complex to set it up, but we managed....

There is a grocery store right across the street (FairPrice) and convenience stores (7-11) on every corner. There is a minifridge in the room. Ramen Keisuke - a block away - is the best ramen broth I've ever had in my life. as I noted earlier - very easy to walk to the Maxwell hawker center (best for lunch) and the Lau Pa Sat hawker center (great for satay in the evening).

It is like a food court. They used to have the best street food but the government will not allow that and have all the street hawkers in like food courts. They have great food and inexpensive.

Yes, "food court" is probably the best comparison. Typically affordable (though not always "cheap" or fast:D) Open on the sides, lots of tables. Very casual and a great way for us to try lots of different things. We LOVE street food!

Singaporeans are opinionated about the "best" food stalls, so we just tried what was nearby - to us, they're all pretty good:D Though I did searches to find what stalls within certain hawker centers were the better reviewed and to see what types of food could be found in each....

We were also in town 6 days but I think only tried 3 or so. Too many other things to eat! (well, most shopping centers have yummy food courts too!) Also husband likes to be spoiled (served:p) on vacation so he didn't want to eat at hawker centers all the time. We did eat at Lau Pa Sat two evenings, though, because it was such a quick walk from our hotel....

What is a hawker center? Is that a shopping mall?

Here are some video examples of hawker centers that we often eat at. Think of it as street food stores put into a clean and well maintained complex, without air conditioning.

Our hawker centers attract the attention of foreign dignitaries too. In this case, it was Ms Aung San Suu Kyi.
