musings re: recent Glory cruise

Not a real review but just some thoughts. We disembarked on Sat Aug 26 from the Glory. I am 77 and husband 87. Sailed Carnival 4 x before but usually sail with NCL. Been on 20 cruises.

Good: Faster to the Fun well worth it!! Got aboard within 15 min when we arrived at 11: 15. Could access cabin as soon as they began boarding which was around 12: 30? Disembarking was a breeze too.

Ship: Renovations included changing all carpet in public rooms but I could see wear and tear in other areas like cabins etc. Very clean though. Entertainment below par. Just went to 2 shows ( Cuban music and another one ) and they have no scenery, just costumes.

Guy's burgers were great. Problem is the lido area is very crowded no matter what time of day it is. We went to breakfast at 9:15 one day and took 45 min to get through the lines! Wish they would open one of the restaurants like NCL does.

Casino has great new slot machines. Personnel very nice and actually everywhere on the ship the crew was friendly.

We had anytime dining and were always seated right away for a table for two. Food was below par in comparison to NCL but desserts seemed tastier.

We had a cabin on deck 8. Even after we dropped off our carry on when we boarded, it still wasn't ready after 1:30 pm. He must have been running behind as when we went back, they were vacuuming under our feet. We didn't see him until later that night and had to stop and ask him re: service etc. We opted for evening only and even then he forgot a couple of times to leave 2 washcloths

Ok, here comes the part that is a bummer. I love lamb chops and ate those Thursday night. Around 5:30 am Friday morning, I was really ill and vomiting uncontrollably. Husband called medical and they came and gave me a shot in the butt. Also has some diarrhea but mostly vomiting. ( like 12 times ) At 8:30 I was no better so they sent a wheelchair and took me down to the medical center. The unpleasant female nurse tried to insert an iv and tried 2 x and now I have 2 black and blue marks the size of silver dollars on my arms. She wasn't successful so the male nurse tried and it worked and was not painful. I was screaming in pain when she tried. I had an IV for 4 hrs in bed and was released. The Dr was very nice. The odd part is my veins are very easy to find so I don't know what the female nurse's prob was although I was dehydrated and supppsedly your veins roll when one is dehydrated.

I was quarantined for all of Friday and that was ok as I was very weak. They did send up jello, toast but I couldn't eat the chicken soup. Cost for medical services = $ 540.00.

Our balcony room was what I expected. Nice and bright lighting but sadly the balcony neighbors were very loud on both sides. One day I was sitting out there and thought some one was being attacked! A lot of screaming and yelling in a scary way. Lo and behold, I figured out they were having sex and must have had their balcony door open or were on the balcony. This happened a few times and always around 6 p.m.

Carnival employees seemed very nice and I have to say the embarkation and debarkation were very swift. Of course I feel very weak now but not due to Carnival.I was very faithful with hand washing. The Dr said I had gastroenteritis due to rich foods. :(

Also meant to add that the room was very cold no matter where we set the temp. Called and they sent a man up and he said yes, it would not get warmer than 69 degrees and that was not normal. He fixed it and all was well.

Sorry you got ill...no way to spend a vacation.

I also wanted to say that should you chose Carnival again, the MDR is open on both sea and port days for brunch (8am-1 pm) and breakfast (hours vary depending on port times) respectively. Sorry you missed out on that because it is MUCH better way to start the day.

Brunch is only on sea days. One dining room is open on port days for breakfast.

Yes..that is what I said, by citing sea and port days separately and then using the word "respectively" after explaining the times.

I was just clarifying as this part of your statement could be taken as brunch is on sea and port days. Emphasis mine.

"the MDR is open on BOTH SEA AND PORT DAYS for brunch (8am-1 pm)."

We did go to the Emerald Steakhouse one night and were very disappointed. The 9 ounce filet tasted quite odd and was very chewy. Side dishes seemed lukewarm at best. Seriously, we are not that picky but we were not impressed.
