Oasis class v. Freedom class - What are your opinions?

We have been on Voyager class ships a few times and on Oasis twice and Allure once. In order to do a different itinerary, we are considering booking our next cruise on a Freedom class ship. What are the big differences between them and will Freedom seem a lot smaller than Oasis class? Any other likes/dislikes between the two? Thanks for any tips and/or advice.

I know it's a smaller ship but I'm trying to decide if that will bother me too much or if downsizing is worth it to get a different itinerary. Is the entertainment similar to the Oasis class minus the Aqua Theater, Central Park & the Boardwalk?

Indy and Liberty have Broadway type shows, Freedom does not. No small comedy venue either, comedians perform in the main theater.

For a week long cruise I do not feel you would lose much on a Freedom class ship as opposed to Oasis. My wife and I felt Oasis was almost too big to see and do everything in seven nights. Since you have been on Voyager class before Freedom class will just be a slightly larger version of that. Similar layout with just a few more options.

Freedom is a stretched version of the Voyager class. If you would enjoy going back on a Voyager ship then you will enjoy going on a Freedom class ship. If you would not enjoy going back to Voyager size then I don't think you will like Freedom class. With all the various renovations the major difference between the two classes is about a hundred feet in lenght.

More passengers in WJ and elevators are two big complaints

Freedom class originally built as Voyager Ultra class so noticeable similarities to Voyager class but more room and extra set of stairs at casino?

IF you like big boats you like big boats no sense in trying to hide it :)

Don't recall the extra set of stairs.

I thought the stairs going into the casino on Freedom from the promenade weren't there on the Voyager because its just that little bit shorter/smaller

Voyager class has those stairs.

The extra 92 feet went in just aft of the casino. It's that area of the Royal Promenade where they put Cafe Promenade on Freedom class ships. Sorrento's on Freedom class is in the place where Cafe Promenade is on Voyager class. Other venues they added in that 92 feet were the On Air Club on deck 3, and the H2O zone on deck 11.

We have sailed Freedom, but our last 5 cruises have been on Oasis and Allure. Although we are tempted by the itineraries on Freedom, especially Grand Cayman, there are some features of the Oasis class that we don't want to give up such as... the Aqua Theater, Boardwalk, and silly as it may seem, the walking track on deck 5......we like that the track is covered if walking during the day or if it is raining and we feel that it is very calming in the evening to be that close to the water....tranquil. If the things I mentioned don't matter to you then you should have no concerns with booking Freedom.

Happy sailing.

We don't do shows. With that said we prefer the freedom class to the Oasis class. Keep in mind there might be some bias because we so it freedom first. We felt Oasis was way too crowded. We had problems with elevators being full. On top of that when you get to shore it's almost twice the people.

The other major thing Oasis is missing is the 4th deck outside. It's one of our favorite places to just walk. Most of the Oasis faces inwards which wasn't our cup of tea.

Lastly, a real solarium pool not covered in glass...nuff said

Isn't a solarium, by definition covered in glass.

We have sailed Freedom twice, Harmony and Oasis once each. Personally, our favorite class is the Freedom class. As mentioned above, we also think that the Oasis class is just a little too big for our liking. There are some things you won't have obviously, like the Central Park, Boardwalk and Aqua Theater, but I think you will love the Freedom class.

I've been on both ships a number of times and prefer Freedom to Oasis. We like the size of Freedom.....still much, much to do but just not as big. We enjoy the Viking Crown Lounge. My husband and I have enjoyed cruising for a long time. Unfortunately, he has had four melanomas and cannot be in the sun. We didn't want to give up cruising and RCCL ships (up until recently) had the VCL where we can sit sometimes and enjoy the view without being in the sun. Sadly, the newer ships have decided to do away with the VCL. :loudcry: We also enjoy the Promenade staterooms that overlook the Café Promenade. We actually prefer these over a balcony. Just my opinion.
