Galveston Eats

What are the best, non-chain, restaurants in Galveston for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? We will be getting in 2 days before we sail, and would like to hit some local spots. We like everything, but fresh seafood would be great, since we live in the desert. We aren't looking for fancy, fine dining. We are open to anything from a complete dive, to nice but casual dress is fine.

Mosquito Cafe for breakfast, The Spot for lunch and Olympia Grill at Pier 21 for dinner.

The Original Mexican Cafe is excellent, Gumbo Diner is really good, Bennos on the Seawall is too.

We also frequent Millers Cafe for seafood, skipping Shrimp and Stuff as their food is dripping in grease and over battered.

The Saltwater Grill is one of the finest meals here, it’s off the Seawall and not a tourist spot.

Spend some time on the Strand, visit La Kings Confectionery for pralines or ice cream.

Take you family down to the ferry landing and park in the walk-on lot. It’s a 20 min ride over to Bolivar Peninsula with the chance to see dolphins and ships come in the channel. Stay aboard and ride back.

There's lot's of great places to eat in Galveston, seconding all of BallFour4's suggestions and adding Black Pearl, Cajun Greek, & Pho Tai. Miller's Seafood Grill would be at the top of my list for excellent family dining for any meal. Not pretentious or stuffy, just excellent food and service.

@Galveston Cruiser - we used to love M&M over on Church I think it was, do you know what happened to the place as it is now closed. Has another restaurant moved in or just closed? Loved their lobster eggs benny and mimosas

M&M closed several years ago.

I believe the building is still for sale.

It was at Church and 24th.

It changed owners; neither could make a go of it.

Our last cruise out of Galveston would have been May 2015 so wouldn't have been too much after that, that they closed, by the looks.

Happy for your list, can't wait to try a few of the places you recommended, much prefer local places over chains anyday, thank you

A trip to Galveston wouldn't be complete without a stop at Bahama Bucks for a snow cone. They are at Ferry Road and Seawall Blvd. Ask for condensed milk on yours. Mine's a toasted coconut flat-top loaded with the sweet milk.

Might drive over there before I leave the island today!
