AZchieffan Posted April 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Just wondering if anybody has ever skipped the muster drill. If so, what do you usually do?
SoCalCruiserGal Posted April 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Most the time, I try to skip the muster drill. The boyfriend always goes though. :) I will start to unpack our stuff or lay down for a short nap. Nothing exciting.
MrPete Posted April 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Anyone skipping muster should be blindfolded, and made to find their muster station without any help. And then put off the ship.
CwuzCwazy Posted April 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Anyone who does skip it is.....ummmmm how do you say it?.....STUPID!!!
finoky Posted April 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2009 In ten cruises I have never skipped a muster drill. Went to every single one.
linda_22003 Posted April 26, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I go because it is required and I want to know what to do in case of emergency. I go promptly as a courtesy to my fellow passengers. I have seen on these boards that some people don't give a [substitute term for defecation here] about that.
BrendaB1 Posted April 26, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2009 For your safety & everyone else onboard.....go to the Muster Drill. It's people like those that skip it that would cause chaos if there was a real emergency.
dna515 Posted April 26, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2009 My husband and I skip it and test out the bed.
Carnival AZIPOD Posted April 26, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2009 As far as I can remember, the Muster Drill cover 3 things. 1) How to put on a life jacket 2) Location of your Muster Station 3) Location of your lifeboat. Some may feel that do not need an actual practical drill to understand the above.

Some may feel that do not need an actual practical drill to understand the above. Thanks for explaining that! Now I understand why it's okay to keep other people waiting, wasting their time, while the staff tries to locate you.

Maraprince Posted April 26, 2009 #14 Share Posted April 26, 2009 On some cruise lines, you cannot escape the muster drill. They will keep calling your cabin number until you answer. On others, you are sent to a lounge indoors while the crew check the cabins -- so there is no hiding. MARAPRINCE
surfgirl67 Posted April 26, 2009 #15 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Won't be skipping........we are taking out 9 yr old son, so I think it is very important.
Luv4dacruise Posted April 26, 2009 #16 Share Posted April 26, 2009 And that doesn't mean us "skippers" are stupid. Thanks! Well, if you don't wanna be referred to as stupid, ya should probably go to the drill. Cause the bottom line is, it is for your own safety and required by law, and if you don't do, the drill simply takes longer for the rest of us cause they are waiting for you guys. Having said all that one should feel pretty (lets see, can't use stupid) dumb when not attending muster
Cruisin' Ron VA Posted April 26, 2009 #17 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I think it is perfectly ok for the ships crew to skip the practice fire fighting, man over board and other drill if they have already done it once. Why practice? Once is enough and if anything bad happens I can count on them to remember what to do. Or can I?
crusiegirl99 Posted April 26, 2009 #18 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I have never skip the Muster trill.I have heard they check every cabin.

How STUPID would you feel seeing this and not know WHAT you were supposed to do. Please, at that point, continue testing out your bed.
lashama Posted April 26, 2009 #20 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I always go, last time was pretty quick and easy on the Victory. Plus I always like the classic life jacket photo! ;)
LADYBUG34113 Posted April 26, 2009 #21 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I thought they accounted for everyone and made sure they were out of their cabins....Wonder if this is why we have had to wait awhile for the muster to begin.
linda_22003 Posted April 26, 2009 #22 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Wonder if this is why we have had to wait awhile for the muster to begin. It definitely is. People think their preferences and their time are far more important than yours, and you've met some of them on this thread.

floridacruzin Posted April 26, 2009 #25 Share Posted April 26, 2009 So, I just asked my son (7) if he rembered what the muster drill was. He replied " It is when we put on our life jackets so we know what to do if something bad happens." I then asked why would it not be smart to miss the muster drill, his response, "Because when they start drowning in their room, they will not know where to go." This was followed by "Don't they check the rooms to make sure you go, Mom" Again, that was a 7yo....maybe he knows my password to cruise critic, lol
