Smoking in the Escape

 Share

Recommended Posts

Must vary by sailing. When I was on in Feb all the high tops surrounding the bar had ashtrays on them and smokers were abound. It was probably triple the space smokers had on the getaway there.

Interesting assessment. I was on the Breakaway in February and the Escape in May, both are “away” class ships and my understanding is that the Getaway is identical to the Breakaway. I did not see any difference in the H2O designated smoking area between the Breakaway and the Escape. The high tops and seating along the starboard side wall, but not at the bar, was the designated area.

Could you explain how the Getaway is different from the Breakaway and Escape, if you have been on them?

Haven't been on breakaway. When I was on getaway the smoking area was on the starboard side between the bar and the railing and didn't go out much past the end of the bar into spice. On the escape the hightops to the left and in front of the bar had ashtrays on them and everyone was smoking there as well as the area between the bar and railing like on getaway. You couldn't smoke at the bar, but the bar was quite literally surrounded by smokers. Basically when you walked up the steps towards the bar everyone was smoking in that entire raised area except right at the bar itself.

Thanks so much!!! (y)The Breakaway is the same as the Escape and this is great information regarding the differences on the Getaway. Your information is very much appreciated!

the Bliss has 1 designated smoking area per 1335 passenger capacity (135 passengers per smoking area). Note: While in port, the Bliss will only have 1 open smoking area and only if the ship is not fueling.

Edit on this data. Upon further crowdsourcing, it appears the ratio on the Bliss is 1 designated smoking area per 2002 passenger capacity (200 passengers per smoking area: 1 indoor in the Casino - only available at sea and 1 uncovered outdoor - when the ship is not fueling). The Humidor is for cigar smoking only.

When the Bliss is in port & fueling, the ship is completely non-smoking except for cigar smokers in the Humidor.

Needless to say I won't be booking any cruises on the Bliss, will have to do the Pearl for Alaska or really check out the smoking policy on Princess

Totally agree. RCL and CCL totally accommodates smoking passengers. NCL is very much slipping in this area. Super upset as NCL was our choice for all our cruise trips. Knowing all the details, we Just canceled another booking. At least other lines offer covered areas out of the elements. The waterfront on deck 8 was perfect. Met so many friends. The bar staff was great THIS Totally su@ck@s.

Unlike the Breakaway, I don't think they do on the Escape.

I'm sure with the very limited smoking areas on the Escape, us fellow smokers will feel cramped.

Trying to remain positive! Good times are coming!

I read on here that there is no smoking at the bar in Vibe on Escape. Since, despite the rush for passes, Vibe is usually very sparsely populated, this was a foolish decision. Not to mention that there is no outside covered smoking on Escape like outside Maltings on Breakaway. I do realize the trend is away from smoking, and I assume the cruiselines have decided they really don't need smokers to make a profit. After more than 70 cruises--most on NCL, this is a deal breaker for me.

It was very busy every day on my recent Escape cruise from New York. Maybe it was a good decision.

Heading back to Royal next summer where they are more respectful of smokers.

There are still a few designated areas but there are comfy couches and chairs in a covered area.

If we had known that the escape isnt allowing smoking on the Waterfront i doubt we would have booked:o

Reason being is that our first cruise with NCL was on Breakaway last summer and it was so nice to be able to smoke at the high top tables and have a waiter get you drinks and it was covered in case of inclement weather. So we were spoiled LOL

So as an aside we have sprung for the Haven and will be curious about how many people will complain about the smoking on deck 19 forward which is a designated smoking area.

And little OT~~~ and the kids running amok in the Havens pool and Jacuzzi area but sorry i digress ;p

That is an accurate assessment of the situation on the Escape. The designated smoking areas are even more constrained on the Bliss which will be in NYC after the Escape leaves.

And I agree with you;p

Is that an assumption about the Bliss or has NCL said it’s coming to NY?

Thanks

Didn't you read the posts? People are dealing with it, they are jumping ship (whee) over to RCL and CCL. No better vote than with your wallet.

Can you smoke in the vibe on the Escape?

I read on here that there is no smoking at the bar in Vibe on Escape.

Last month (May 2018) Vibe was a non-smoking area.

The closest designated smoking area to Vibe is at the Waves bar on 17, 2 decks down and halfway across the ship. Or you could walk a little further to H2O, also on deck 17.

For smokers it makes more sense to just go to deck 17 to hang out and skip the Vibe.

Just realized that smokers have become this decades “back of the bus” people. At least on the Escape (and Bliss)

You are kidding me, right? How offensive. If you are equating someone’s treatment because they choose to smoke with how someone was treated due to the color of their skin, then you have issues.

Actually I was referring to segregation defined as "the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things". Throughout history there has been segregation, although who, how and why changes. It can be voluntary, for example choosing where to live, or involuntary.

Right now the socially acceptable target for involuntary segregation happens to be smokers. And on the Escape/Bliss, it is quite literally the back of the ship where smokers are being segregated into their designated areas.

Sorry you are offended, since that was not my intent. It was just an observation.

People who smoke aren't segregated. The act of smoking is segregated. A person who smokes can go anywhere on the ship that a non-smoker can go (excluding exclusive areas such as the Haven, the Spa, VIBE, etc.). The "back of the bus" analogy doesn't apply since people of color couldn't simply change their skin color the way that a smoker can simply put the cigarette out.

People who gamble aren't segregated, either. There is an area where they can gamble (casino) just as there are areas to smoke for people to smoke.

is this new on the escape? I sailed on Escape a while back in 2016 and remember there being smoking on the Waterfront on one of the sides.

It's not new.

Escape's smoking policy has changed several times but in summer of 2016, smoking wasn't allowed on the Waterfront. Not that it didn't happen (and may still happen) but Escape doesn't allow smoking on any part of the Waterfront.

I had the same experience In Sept 17. Ash tray on every table and a couple on the bar.
