Every time we dock in Santa Cruz Tenerife we get a taxi to Puerto del la Cruz.

They ask €150 but we always get for around €110 and the taxi drops us off for 2-3 hours in Puerto Del La Cruz then takes us back to the ship or Santa Cruz and we pay at the end.

Loro Parque is popular too.

A bit too vague, I'm afraid. Which islands/ports are you visiting? I'm assuming you want to avoid tours altogether and do your own thing - perfectly feasible?

One of our favourite places to visit in Lanzarote is the Manrique Fundacion.

It's only about 3 miles from Arrecife. We just got a taxi there - cost about €10 last time we did it but it might have gone up a bit. They will ring for a taxi at the Fundacion when you're ready to leave. We sometimes take the taxi to Costa Teguise another 3 miles away for a stroll and drink before returning to Arrecife. You can catch the local bus back to Arrecife.

If you've not visited those places before (including Gran Canaria) my advice would be to skip tours altogether and just spend each day wandering around as a visitor. They'll all accommodate a day's activities, and if you go on a tour you'll miss that.

Personal view only (I hate being herded around in tour buses) but a quick Google will give you an idea as to whether there'll be enough to keep you occupied.

We went to Costa Teguise last time by taxi from the ship.

Arricife has a nice promenade and a half mile shopping street but not much else and is about 800 metres from the shuttle drop off.

Plays Blanca's is the main resort but is further away.

I would actually say that Puerto del Carmen is the main resort, and nearer to Arrecife. However, Playa Blanca is the nicest resort on the island!

On Lanzarote the volcano trip is wonderful; I did it several years ago and I'm about to book it again in December on Oceana because it was so good, especially the drive around the rim of the crater. The Manrique Foundation is also a good trip to do under your own steam.

I remember that trip.

They pour a bucket of water down a hole and seconds later a blowout of steam comes out of the hole.

On La Palma we went to a beach called "Bajamar" that's about 30 mins walk around the outside of the port from where the ship docks (in fact you can see the beach from the berth). It doesn't look terribly attractive when you see it from the ship, but when you get there it's a lovely clean beach with clean, basic facilities (toilets, café, showers) and despite being so near the port, the water is spotless and the beach shelves quite gently. There were plenty of locals there when we were and they were very friendly. Group of teenagers/20 somethings played football near us and were very apologetic if the ball went near us, and very welcoming when son and hubby joined in! Alternatively you can get a taxi or bus to Los Cancajos, another beach a few miles further away, but we were happy with Bajamar.

On Tenerife we did a private tour to Mount Teide with John Reid of Tenerife Private Tours http://www.tenerifeprivatetours.com/. 6-hour tour, EUR 60 pp, pick up and return to port. He does a range of different tours on his website. In fact on the day we were there it was a public holiday and John wasn't available, so he subcontracted to a wonderful guy called Guillermo and his mother Maria. They run Montes de Tenerife http://www.montesdetenerife.com, specialising in hiking tours. We had a fabulous day with them.

A second vote here for Playa de Bajamar, just remember your flip flops as the black sand can get blazing hot! They used to have some nice bars in the marina as well but they were closed when we were last there in 2016 so maybe someone has been more recently?

Our plans are usually centered around our son so for Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) we usually walk to the beach then have lunch on the way back in Parque Santa Catalina which is not far from the port.

In Arrecife (Lanzarote) we've taken a taxi to Rancho Texas which has animals, displays, shows, a water park and fairly priced food. We've also tried Puerto del Carmen for the beach which was decent and the beach in Arrecife itself which was just okay but we did have a great lunch nearby in "La Tabla."

In Santa Cruz (Tenerife) we often go to Parque Maritimo Cesar Manrique which is a lido just past the Opera House (locals often call it "La Piscina" i.e. the swimming pool). It has reasonable admission prices with fairly priced food and drink outlets. The thing we really like about it is that it is very family oriented and a very safe environment for our son.

Good luck with your planning and enjoy the cruise.

Damian

The only place I can recall from last year was a quite big, expensive-looking place overlooking the marina. Otherwise there were just a couple of small café bars frequented by the port workers on the walk round from the ship's berth to the beach.
