New to cruising and will be doing an Alaska cruise tour this September and the balcony rooms were in short supply when I booked. The balcony room we chose was 8143 which is literally at the back of the ship.

Has anyone stayed in a room like that at the back of a ship? Seems like you will get to see both sides of the ship and is that a plus or not?

Congrats on booking your first cruise and welcome to Cruise Critic.

Your cabin is in between two cabin decks, which is great for noise considerations. Aft cabins are very popular, they often have slightly larger balconies and people seem to enjoy them.

My favorite part of ship - it seems more open, the balconies are usually little larger and we feel we never miss what's going on on either side of the ship because you will get the chance to see both while the ship is cruising

Have fun - you will get hooked on cruising

We're aft facing cabin fans too. However, if one has any mobility issues they may not be for you as there is a lot walking involved from the cabin to other areas of the ship. In that case, a mid-ship would seem to be preferable.
