Jan is away up in Scotland, hope the weather is not too bad. It looked very wet on Thursday night at the Commonwealth Games

How long is she there for? Looking at Saturdays games coverage she may need a canoe to get home.

The weather man said gales around the West coast of Scotland this weekend... Does not bode well for a smooth sailing for my NCL cruise to Greenock (for Glasgow) on 2nd October.:eek:

Bit of info I thought you might be interested in. The site that has IE listed for sale has been updated. It now says this:

PRICE: Owners now (July 2014) looking for 30 million USD levels

Delivery end 2014.

Owners state that if not sold they may keep her in their fleet for another 3 years.

A little news we got whilst on the ship is that Apollo the company who supply the staff to the ship have been awarded two more Thomson ships the Celebration and the Dream contract starts in November this year . Also if the old lady passes her ....cdc ...test next year she will be about for another 4/5 years this is why the money is getting spent .

Hope you are well Sailaway ;)

I got back from the wilds of Scotland on Sunday night. The weather was good until Saturday when we had a little light rain in Kinlochleven until the evening when it really set in. What a nice place that is, apart from the awful midges, and the Glencoe range of mountains is as good as we've seen anywhere. We went on the railway from Fort William to Mallaig and it compared well with the Flam railway in Norway for beautiful scenery. The games visit last Wednesday went ok but, prejudice apart, we felt Manchester dressed the city up much better and there was more of a festival feel about it in 2002 and also in London 2012. Lovely in Cumbria on the way up and we got to walk the fells with no one about and very little traffic on the roads, beautiful scenery here as well. The worst part was the drive back from south of Glasgow, hours of torrential rain and bad visibility on the motorway. Maybe a flight up to Glasgow and the train to the highlands might make a good holiday.:):)

Welcome back Jan. Glad you made it home safely through the storms. Scotland sounds nice. Ashamed to say, I have never visited but will correct that with my next cruise.

Agree about the festival feel of London 2012. The Olympic stadium is within walking distance from where I live... & we were lucky enough to get tickets to the last night of the athletics... Happy days.

I'm ashamed that I had never visited Scotland before. Do you know that there is a nightly sleeper train from Euston, London right through to Fort William for the Isle of Skye? I think it would be well worth getting that for a visit and you would save the cost of a hotel for the night. Oh! the adventure! I'm back down to earth with a bang, or should I say bangs and dust, as I'm having the bathroom ripped out and made bigger. What have I started!:D:D

We had never visited Scotland or Ireland before we did the round Britain trip 3 years ago

We've been 'midged' Oh! the itching. Horrible things. Now I've found out that the military swear by Avon's Skin So Soft body spray. It seems it has an oily base that the things hate. I must get some of that if we go again.:):)

Is everyone on holiday? So quiet.:)

Nah. Hard at work on the late shifts. But I did get my E-docs for my NCL cruise so at present I am a well happy Stevio. :)

Thanks for the good advice about the Avon body spray for future midge protection.

Good luck with that bathroom ripping out malarkey, that dust really does get everywhere doesn't it.

You're right about the dust Stevio. The upstairs looks like an Ebola quarantine station as I've taped sheets of polythene over all the doors. Plastering today and tomorrow so over the worst hopefully. Those pesky midge bites have only stopped itching as the weather has cooled off, awful little red spots on my arms and legs. Out of season for me next time, lol. I hope that body spray works, some people swear by it and the odd one not. I think you have to re-do it during the evening for best effect. The weather is still mad here, windy and rain one minute then sunny the next.

Anybody going on the IE? We've been already this year. Advice and help starts here.:):)

Hello everyone..I'm lurking !

We are in between visitors at the moment... just had stepson (hyperactive 43 year old) his wife and two dogs (one of those is hyperactive as well!) here for a week....and my daughter (calm 43 year old) arrives tomorrow night for 3 or 4 days !! Then next week my laid back son, his wife and my grandson and grand doggie will be staying nearby in a caravan....that's the sort of visitors I quite enjoy....when they stay elsewhere and just visit now and again!!!

We enjoyed our Scottish ports on our recent British Isles cruise but we had been before on a land holiday in a cottage between Cairngorm and Inverness several years ago and we saw some very beautiful sights.

Like Jan we have been on IE this year so between us I'm sure we can answer any questions!!:)

All quiet here. Anyone knocking on our door that looks like they may want to come in or stay are studiously ignored in the hope that they will go away.

I am currently awaiting the delivery of some floor vinyl (used to be called lino) for the kitchen. A nice simple & clean dust free job.... Apart from the ripping out of all the cupboard plinths, disconnection of washers & fridges & the temporary removal of a range cooker that was bought by the yard & its replacement without touching & damaging the new floor surface. That's the difference in modern easy to lay floor coverings, If you nicked good old lino it was the same colour all the way down, but if you lightly scrape vinyl you end up with a dirty great white slash.

I was also on the good old IE in June this year, and stand ready to answer questions but I think therein lies the problem. The ship is mainly refilled with repeat cruisers who had a good time before & already know about the ship without the need for a forum.

We could convert to a DIY tips or family tree for beginners forum while we wait for a question about cruises... But I am keeping out of the family advice for hyperactive 43 year olds as I have no experience of the subject... Still hiding behind the sofa when they knock :D

I think I agree with Stevio, we all know too much about the IE. OR, are we just know it all's, lol. We'll just gossip amongst ourselves until a sensible question comes up.

I can't believe it, we now have the grandchildren for two days. Llangollen today and very nice it is there but I feel like an entertainments officer. Still, I now have a lovely plastered bathroom, empty but lovely, lol. I'm going to have a nervous breakdown before weekend.:D:D

Back to IE - I do hope they keep her for a few more years. Could the quality of the service and friendliness be repeated elsewhere ? M & J

Sent from my iPad using Forums

I would love to see the entire crew of the IE transplanted onto another newer ship with larger cabins & a proper theatre with a decent sized casino... But it never seems to work that way & there's no point in taking the risk of losing the current special atmosphere on the IE. Like they say if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Rumors were that the IE should be with us for the next few years.:):):)
