Carnival Spirit - Card to use to lock room safe

Hello. There are safes in each cabin and these work using a card with a magnetic strip, not the room key. Defeats the purpose really if you have to carry a credit/debit card, or similar, around as well as the room key/sail and sign card. How have others managed? Do you hide the card in your room, or put a hole in a card so you can hang it on a lanyard?

We punched a hole in card and hung it on lanyard, but we never use a credit card for this purpose. Think about other magnetic cards, like an old club card, a reward card from any store ie Katies/Spotlight or whatever. These are easy to obtain if you don't have one. Just walk into the store of choice, and join their rewards system. Easy done! Then keep it for further cruises.

Yes it is, but if you use that then your cabin mate can't get into the safe. Same card must be used to unlock that locked it.

Oh of course, that could be a nuisance. Better just hide the card in the cabin somewhere then. Thanks!
