Internet on Norwegian Jewel

I am considering a cruise on the Jewel from Tokyo to China, and will need to work while I am away. I would appreciate hearing from some experienced users on how fast and how reliable the internet is on the Jewel. Thanks

We have had unlimited internet on the Jewel to Alaska and the Mexican Riviera within the past year. It was one of the best in the fleet on those cruises. Partly because on the Alaska cruise, you are in US ports a lot. And Mexico, many US mobile service includes it for free.

You are dealing with satellite internet, so there is the latency of going 23,000 miles up and then back from the satellite. You are also sharing a single pipe with everyone else on the ship (like being in a land-based hotel).

NCL gets some perceived speed with a cache server that pre-fetches web pages (i.e., if you go to a web page, it would pre-fetch other pages linked to that page, so if you click on it, you get an immediate response). That doesn't work if you are VPNed into server.

If you are not downloading large files (or people aren't emailing you large files), you should be fine.
