Being the last off the ship. How to do it?

Ask passengers services to assign you to the last walk off group but don't dawdle once your group is called. Processing in-transit passengers and letting them back on board cannot begin until all passengers have disembarked the ship. You don't want to be the person whose name is being broadcasted every few minutes over the PA system :p.

On one cruise we literally just could not wake up til about 9am, and we got lucky and our room steward just never bothered us all morning. We finally got off at 9:30 after he did have to bother us and we were told there was only one more party on board after us. So if you want to be last off: stay up til 5am drunk off your ass the night before and sleep through every announcement.

Just wait around until they make last call. We could do self assist, no checked bags for us, but prefer to have breakfast and wait until we have to leave our cabin, then find a spot in a lounge until last call. No rush then. No jammed elevators. EM

I have read a lot of posts discussing how to be one of the first off a ship at the end of a cruise. Self-disembarkation, etc.

But my flight isn't until the late afternoon and I'd like to stay on the ship as long as possible. Any tips?

Thanks!

Sure. Find a place on the Lido deck to sit and relax, and stay there until Security comes and drags you off of the ship, which will probably be somewhere between 10:00 - 10:30.

Self assist is also an option. I know cruise lines like us lot to go early but many just let you hang out.

We have done self assist and once got off the ship just before 10. This was mainly due to hearing how packed the line was (of both self assist and last zone) so we just hung out.

Thanks everyone. Those are great tips. I especially like the suggestion from SophiHeyy:p.

So, do self-check-out. Have breakfast. Dawdle in the cabin a bit and then sit on the Lido until the announcements tell us "All Ashore". Or until Security drags us off (Just kidding ... won't let it get that far!)

Cheers:cool:

We quite often have a late flight and are in one of the last groups. It’s not really much fun to be on board with no cabin, no internet and no one to really talk to since most of the people we’ve met are gone already. People are cleaning around you, practically hoovering under your feet. I also worry about getting into the terminal to find that someone’s taken our bags by mistake. This has never happened to us, (so far!). but did happen to one bag belonging to a friend.

They want you OUT of the cabin by 8:30, so lingering isn't very pleasant. They want the ship cleared by 10 am.....there is little to no service on departure day....your charging abilities are done when the restaurants shut down after breakfast (which is earlier than normal).

Sure, you can sit in some public area until they chase you off.

We just buy a shore excursion that has airport drop off. It is a fun way to extend your vacation.

One of our very best, shore excursions was a drop off at the airport. We were leaving from Dover and the airport was Heathrow. On the way, we stopped at Canterbury.

You can opt for the latest group and still keep your luggage with you...no one makes you put it outside your door at night.

I feel like I’d be exchanging one problem for another. We’d be wrestling a big-ish suitcase and a carry-on each out of the cabin with us at 8am, waiting for a lift and cluttering up a public area until the first groups had gone. We like the longer cruises and I’m not a person who can do a whole cruise out of just a carry-on anyway.:)

LOL. Get your granddaughter quarantined the night before debarcation. They made us wait in our cabins and security escorted us off the ship. There was literally no one in the terminal area. Thankfully we were staying over an extra day so we didn't have flights to worry about.

Careful of what you ask for. Other than sitting aroundpublic areas clogged with all the pax and their carry off luggage, there isnothing to do. Bars are closed as well as all shops. Buffet is open but youwill not find a seat. Not conducive for a relaxing day. Once had a laterdisembarkation time, so we just stayed in cabin. Had a good relation with thesteward, so asked to stay in cabin as long as possible. No issue and leftdirectly from cabin two hours later.

We got the 2nd to last group but found comfy chairs in a public area & sat & read. When the last group was called, we finished the chapters were reading, & walked off. There may have been 8-10 of us. Our luggage was really easy to find in the empty warehouse, lol Even the customs lines were short.

Just stay out of the way of the staff that is trying to get ready for the next guests, meaning don't dawdle in the buffet.

We often have a late flight home. We just get into the last group to leave, get out of the cabin at the last possible moment, eat breakfast, again at the last moment and then wait either in a lounge or on deck until the 'last call' for passengers to debark.

Usually this is around 10, give or take.

Sometimes we do a tour with airport drop-off or sometimes rent a car so we are mobile.

There rarely seem to be any flights that either aren't too early or are really late to our home airport anymore.
