Transportation from Heathrow to Southampton

Trying to find transportation from Heathrow airport to Southampton in June as I am going on Indy.

Found the following but am getting confused.Not sure which company to go with. Anyone able to help?

Also where should we stay in London after the cruise? Want someplace central to the action but yet within reason to airport.

Yes ,national express is best ,then just a few minutes from docks .

http://www.aquacars.co.uk/ is much bigger & more established, most of their trade is in local taxi trips. Well-respected locally, but not well known on CC.

Both are based in Portsmouth, near Southampton.

Expect to pay about £80 to £95.

http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx operates coaches nationwide, including a direct route Heathrow to Southampton.

nb - book to Southampton coach station. Ignore the cruise terminal option, it only applies to Fred Olsen sailings. It's a £5 to £8 taxi hop from the coach station to any cruise terminal.

There's also a frequent train service from Heathrow to Southampton. Not popular cos at around £38 it's twice the cost of the coach and involves a shuttle-bus journey from Heathrow to a main-line station where you switch to a train to Southampton. Worth remembering as a Plan B if your Plan A gets fouled-up.

A hotel location in central London is a compromise.

For convenience from Southampton. a hotel near Waterloo (train) or Victoria (coach)

For convenience to Heathrow, a hotel in Paddington (train), or Victoria (coach).

All are on the edge of tourist-London, those more convenient to more sights are in the very centre but generally very expensive.

Victoria has a lot of small privately-run hotels, around County Hall / Waterloo is more hotel chains, Paddington has a mix.

There'll be walkable sights from any central London hotel, but you'll need transport for most sights. So a hotel handy to a tube (metro) station and a ho-ho route.

County Hall is my choice for best compromise, other will have different opinions.

Summer of 2016, we did UK cruise leaving from Southampton. We flew in a day early (to Gatwick) so we wouldn't be so jetlagged. We used the National Express bus from the airport to Southampton. We took a taxi to the White Star Tavern where we spent the night. Fish and chips in the pub were delicious. The only concern would be if you cannot handle stairs...there are NO elevators! The next day it was a 2 block walk to the cruise ship terminal. After the cruise, we used the ship's transfer back to London, simply because we could walk off the ship and onto the bus...no hassle. It dropped us off at Victoria Station. We stayed at the Comfort Inn just two blocks from Victoria Station...again, an easy walk. On the morning of our return flight, we just walked to Victoria, took the Gatwick Express train to the airport, and were on our way. The good thing about staying near Victoria was that it has a subway station, a bus/coach station, and the train station so there was easy access to all the places we wanted to revisit in London. We have, on previous trips to London, stayed at the Premier Inn at County Hall, Jury's Inn, and the Hilton London Paddington.

Agree National Express is great, about 15 quid at the moment, used that service a few times on our visits to UK.:D

Ships transfers i.e. Princess want US$129, Soton-LHR with a detour via Stonehenge.

I am a Premier Inn fan too, stayed in many all over UK. Go onto their website for best prices, pay up front for best rate or at the hotel where you pay a bit more.

We used Blueberry Cars in Sept. From the airport to our central London hotel, to Southampton and back to the airport. They were on time, meet you by baggage claim, clean cars, nice drivers. We will definitely use again.
