Back to back cruises

Hi all

Wishing to hear experiences of anyone who's taken back to back cruises on SD. What was it like on 'changeover day'? Any special tips or hints or things to be aware of, logistically or otherwise?

It will be interesting as we'll be cruising with SD friends on the first leg, then on our own on the second.

We'll be on St Thomas for the change.

Thanks

Shaskelly

We just got off a Back to Back March 17 to 31. We were the only couple onboard doing two weeks. We didnt have to get off the boat and they arranged lunch for us on the back of the boat, with Silvio giving us choices the night before, we eagerly awaited the arrival of our new shipmates at 2 pm by sitting on the back of the boat.

We've done several back to backs. In Europe we hire a guide for the entire day, leave after breakfast and return late in the afternoon, skipping the whole first day hassle. In the Caribbean we have spent the day on the ship, which has been quite enjoyable. I think that whatever you decide to do, you will enjoy yourselves.

Zimmy is always reluctant to book private guides when we are on SD because you can't rely on the yacht being where it is scheduled to be. She makes an exception when we do a b2b because it pretty much has to be at the port where the passengers are getting off and on. I'd never say you are absolutely safe (last year we ended a cruise on the Dutch side of St. Martin instead of the French side, where we were scheduled), but it is a pretty sure thing. The first time we did a b2b there were maybe 6 couples doing it. We got to know each other on the first leg, and were a group on the second. It made it nice, since we were not traveling with anybody. Try not to be too smug when you see all the luggage in the hall at the end of the first leg and you are not one of the poor folks who have to vacate. And you don't have to do a second lifeboat drill. The only downside, if it is one, is that you are getting the same meals you had the week before. But then again, it is SeaDream. Ask for something else if that bothers you.

We have done a number of back to backs. It is treated just like any port day. The crew needs to know if you are going to eat lunch on board or be ashore, but other than that you can come and go as you see fit. The best pat is that you get to stay in the TOY while others on the second cruise go to muster drill.
