Too much OBC

Has not happened in years, but we are going to have too much Non refundable obc. Can you still go to the casino and get cash? any recommendations? Thanks

Too many people were taking advantage of cashing out their non-refundable OBC in the casino so they did away with this. You may now go to the casino and get promotional chips / credits against your OBC for gaming in the casino. You can only get cash back out of your winnings, if there is any.

We had what I consider to be a lot of OBC on one of our cruises and we hit the internet cafe and bought an iPad. Best purchase ever. Pricing is the same as at home but it is duty free. The next time around when we had a lot of OBC, we went back to get some accessories for the iPad or maybe a mini iPad and they were all out of stock on most Apple products, though. Instead, we got a JBL bluetooth speaker ...second best purchase we made onboard.

Other ideas:

spa services

other onboard shopping

photo package (if they still have them)

specialty dinners

beverage package / upgrade to premium package

excursions

events such a captain's table (or whatever it's called), classes, wine tastings, ship tours, bingo, etc

private cabana (depending on if the ship has these)

pay per view movies

room service goodies

extra gratuities

Duty free liquor and cigarettes

Extra cost entrees and other items in Main Dining Room and specialty restaurants

Fitness classes

Flowers

Gelato

Gift shop

Gratuities, and extra gratuities

Guests dining with you in Luminae (applies to Suite Passengers only)

Guest entertainers' CD's and DVD's

Hair and nail salon

Hollywood hot glass experiences (some ships)

Internet

Laundry/pressing/drycleaning

Luggage Valet

Martini Flights

Medical Center

Mini bar

Shore Excursions

Pay-per-view movies

Photos & cameras

Room service up charge items, and late night delivery fee

Shore Excursions

Shuttle to town (some ports)

Spa -- massages and treatments

Specialty restaurants

Teeth Whitening

Telephone calls using ship's system

Transfer to another passenger's account

You can use your OBC in the Casino, but you cannot cash it out. They will give you play only chips, or slot credits. With the chips you play the chips they gave you. If you win, they pay you in standard chips. Keep the standard chips, continue to play with the play only chips. If you lose, but additional play only chips.

This is a great way to go if you plan on playing in the casino anyway.

We did this the last 2 years on Summit with no problems.

If you are OK losing a few % you can indirectly cash it out at the casino and be guaranteed to get most of it back. Obtain promotional chips and play just under half on black, just under half on red and the remainder on green at the roulette wheel. If you have match play coupons from Captain's Club then you might be able to even get all of the money back in OBC depending on if your match play coupon "hits."

Question!

How much is too much onboard credit? Sounds like an awesome problem to have.. Happy spending.

And how does one go about getting non refundable onboard credit? and get so much of it that it is too much? LOL

A lot of the recent X deals have included $300 in OBC, which was a lot to me. I ran all of ours through the casino. Many of the ships run specials most of the week where you can get bonus chips by buying a certain amount on your SeaPass card. I forget the specific amounts, but it was something like an extra $20 or so for $100 in slot or table chips. That more than covers the house edge, so it definitely improves your chances of at least breaking even and receiving the full value of your OBC back in cash.

We used our extra OBC to buy perfume and cologne for a few of the crew members that went above and beyond during our cruise.

they don't want it. Just one more thing for them to lug home or give away to somebody else.

If you definitely can't use it all, make friends with a nice couple on board and take them to dinner! By the way, what cruise are you on?:D

that's a great idea.

I bought a Michael Kors bag on sale day. Next time this happens, we'll spend it on non-inclusions in the classic package like Grand Marnier, Ketel One Vodka, more expensive wine. Still have leftovers? it's going into the slots with fingers crossed that we get it back in cash. Refundable OBC always comes home to momma.

We usually always end up with way too much OBC -N. I use it for shore excursions, photos, Michael Kors purses, etc. The last sea day they always have the big 50% off sale and I buy some stuff for Christmas gifts. Even for me it’s hard to spend that much when all perks are included!

Note: In 2016 we set aside OBCN for extra gratuities for crew. That did not work out too well. For most it goes in a pool. There are very few crew you can gift it to exclusively. Then they add it to their paychecks and give them a slip of paper with amount and who it was from. Our butler did not understand it all. We would not do it again.

Our TA periodically issues refundable OBC equal to about 10% of the cruise base price. If we also have prepaid gratuities and/or a drink package, plus free internet minutes, there's often a substantial amount left. On Princess, the unused credit is refunded via a check which arrives about 3 weeks after the end of the cruise. Does Celebrity not do the same thing?

I've given extra OBC to my favorite bartender, somillier, bar waitress quite easily by asking for a slip to sign for a tip when they bring me a drink while i'm on a drink package. I asked the somillier if I gave him a tip that way if he got to keep it and he said yes, it would come to him at the end of the week. Because it was a sales slip he printed with a no sale, he could keep track to make sure he got the tip. Same with any bartender or bar waitress.

For the MDR wait staff or the room steward, cash is much better.

Yes, for refundable OBC (although it's always been credited to our card on file). The OP is talking about non-refundable OBC, which is use it or lose it.

If you register a credit card, they actually process the credit remaining that is refundable onto the card. I had credit remaining on our Alaska cruise in spite of my attempts to spend it and got the credit on the credit card a few days after the cruise.

Yea, we usually get the $300 OBC from Celebrity and around the same from TA which is good for a standard balcony cabin.

We easily spend that $600 with no problem. And no, we don't take home any OBCR as it's a vacation, have fun.

We take the first $300 and pay gratuities (10 night) and the rest is used in the casino, t-shirt, etc. Since my wife likes to gamble we take advantage of the bonus they offer for putting slot credits on your card. She can cash out any winnings but who cares, she would have spent that anyway.

Can't imagine having too much OBC but then we don't cruise in $5,000 cabins so maybe they get a lot more. Overall we get about 20% in OBC between Celebrity and our TA. i'm satisfied with that.

Book a Royal Suite or a Penthouse. Almost everything is included in the price including laundry, premium beverage package, the normal suite perks of Go Best, and unlimited specialty dining. Plus the mini bar stocked daily AND a couple of full sized bottles of spirits. Add the $300 from X to the possible $1,000 (and up) from a TA along w/ a small "TA Loyalty OBC" or so for a week's cruise and that's a decent chunk of OBC. Trust me, I'll spend every cent. It's a dirty job but somebody has to do it! ;)
