Have you booked direct with P&O because even though heard many say you get no noise from the lift itself noisy inconsiderate people late at night would bother me. If you have booked direct ring P&O and tell them you are not happy with the cabin allocation and what else is available. Never pre-register with P&O because you cannot choose cabin number only cabin grade where if you had pre-registered with a TA you could have given them a choice of say 4-6 cabins you would have been happy to book.

If you booked with P&O direct, I am sure they will move your cabin to one that is more agreeable to you. All you need to do is phone them (use the freephone number). I disagree with the advice of never to pre-register, it has always worked for me and they are happy to change cabins upon request.

We pre registered direct with P&O. I have done a quick search to find people have said they have never been bothered by being near lifts but this cabin is right next to it. I just wondered if you would hear the mechanics of the lifts working as I think whichever cabin you are in you get disturbed by inconsiderate people walking by.

We pre-registeted with P&O and I asked the lady that I spoke to if she could note the cabins that we were interested in, I told her 3 and we were allocated the fist number that I told her. It always pays to ask the question.

pre registered for Caribbean 2020 and just had confirmation come through with cabin on B deck number 711 right next to lift. Any thoughts! Is it a really poor allocation?

Viewing the location of B711, I don't think you would be bothered by passengers awaiting the lifts as you are behind the shaft. As to the sounds of the lift themselves, you are nowhere near the mechanics and therefore it would only be the sound of doors opening and closing which is negligible. With most lift trips we wonder at times if our fellow passengers are even breathing. Whenever we book we try to be as near the lifts as possible.

Thanks so much for that information. I spoke to my husband when he got home from work and he said he's happy to stick with the cabin allocation, and on a positive note will only have to worry about neighbours on one side:)

Never gave advice to never pre-register just not directly with P&O we have pre-registered many times for nearly all maiden cruises since Aurora but with a specialist cruise TA. You can give them a number of cabins to chose from and are always cheaper than booking direct with P&O. Have always been very successful and always got my first choice of cabin and excellent service from my cruise TA.

I think we will have to agree to differ and do things in the way we think best. Both seem to work well anyway.

Personally I would change the cabin. We were in that cabin on Grand Princess on one cruise and we found it noisy in rough seas. You could hear the cables clanking all night.

There was no noise apart from that so you may not be affected as the caribbean is generally smoother than the Bay of Biscay in April but given the choice to change I would.
