Ways to spend OBC

Y'all are so great. Glad others think about this as well.

I see us using OBC for one wifi, gratuities, a zumba or pilates class, speciality dining (via onboard discount offers - we can take or leave it, happy with the MDR and other included options), and kinda that's it. We don't shop onboard (am too much of a discount diva), we don't need t shirts, photos, etc. We have beach massages planned for $40 each, and get them regularly at home. So there's not much left. I will be sure to check how much is from Celebrity vs my fabulous TA, just in case there's some left.

I suppose we're rather low-maintenance cruisers - just make my bed and my meals and give me the sea and a beach and I don't need much else! Don't tell my husband, must make him continue to think I'm high maintenance!;p

Thanks so much for this info.

Do you specifically ask them to drawn "from your OBC" or is it just drawn on your shipboard account to which OBC is automatically applied?

Either way works....basically just two ways of saying the same thing.

On Equinox presently and doing b2b....Had 425 OBC each leg.....go to table (not cage) and ask for draw on your OBC. They will say a 5% charge. Accept that and that gave us 425 in REAL chips(-5%).Just walk away then.

OK, thank you. I will certainly try this next time since getting 95% of OBC in 'real' chips (i.e.cash) is better than getting 100% in 'play-only' chips.

I always take my TA’s OBC(OIBR)back with me. In my mind, that comes off my cruise and on the next one. I never have trouble spending the OBC from Celebrity, even with all 4 from them. Absolutely love Murano and cosmetics; seems like I always forget something. Gratuities and my extra $50’s go fast. But it is all very worth it in the end! Oh how fortunate to have such issues...

I hope you have a very enjoyable cruise!!!

Just want to make I sure I understand something regarding OBC

Say we have $500 in OBC of that $300 is from Celebrity and $200 is from TA when we purchase or use it for something who do they draw from first the Celebrity one or the one from the TA

Thanks for the input

The first draws on OBC always start with the nonrefundable.

Wow == that's new. I wonder if it is fleetwide? Or perhaps you just got lucky and the person at the table didn't follow the instructions to give you marked chips? Either way, you got lucky and it worked out for you and I hope it will work for others in the future.

Know you are a big player on the boards.

Can't answer about fleet wide , but I did it with two different people in the casino on two different legs and a friend cruising with us did it the next night. All the same operation. Ask for draw.....accept 5% charge....get REAL chips ....walk to cage and cash out.

The OBC from X will be available to spend before you cruise. So, if you are making purchases before you board, they will use the OBC from X regardless of whether it is OBC-N or OBC-R The TA OBC will show up once you board and can take up to a day or two to appear. (Ours has always appeared on day 1 (embarkation). If you are spending your OBC, they will use your non-refundable OBC first and then use your refundable OBC. Anything left in your refundable OBC will be credited back to your listed credit card, or you can go to Guest Services the final morning (disembarkation day) and they will hand it back to you in cash.

Forgive me please :o, but I just don't get how to do it .We will be doing a b2b on Eclipse with about $1,000 of OBC (all from the cruise line).I would love to get back some of it, if not all in cash for a deposit on future cruises even with a 5% loss. Could someone say it again slowly how to do this. again sorry to need it explained again.

We are (happily) receiving more onboard credit for our Silhouette cruise in March. I'll take free money whenever I can get it, thanks.

But it's a lot. (Thanks again.)

So how will we spend $475? Is it possible to get it back if we haven't spent it all?

  • We've already booked our shore excursions (non-Celeb)
  • Drinks included
  • We'll book speciality dining onboard, hopefully at a discount, but can live without it
  • How is the spa? Don't really need it, need the treat at home more than on a cruise
  • We can use it for gratuities, correct?
  • We'll buy one wifi package, and potentially take a few fee-based classes at the gym

All in all I doubt we'll spend that much, though.

Thank you!

Use it or lose it.

What WAVTAM was saying is to go to a table in the casino (roulette, blackjack, poker, for example, where this is a 'dealer'). Present your seapass card and ask them for $xx in chips from your shipboard account. They will tell you there is a 5% charge. You'll sign a charge slip and get your chips. Then you take your chips, which are REAL chips, that can be cashed out at the 'cashier'/'cage'. So you can gamble them or cash them out. [if you do this at the roulette table tell them in advance whether you want colour chips or cash chips since you can't walk away with the colour chips - they're for betting on the table only - so if you know you are walking away, ask for the chips in $5 or $25 or $100 denominations]

FYI, I've never done this myself which is why I was asking about whether the actual OBC on your account could be used to 'fund' this withdrawal, which WAVTAM says he/she has been successful at doing.

It can go very quick. Gratutues for 2 on 7 day cruise are $189. Upgrade to the Premium beverage package $165 A dinner in Murano with 25% discount is $75 add on a tip $15-20 . Leaves you about $ 30 for wine tastings. fitness classes, spa, shopping, etc.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Thanks for all of the answers! I'm a newbie regarding OBC, but my wife and I have $300 for our next cruise. Once onboard, where can we go to get an update on how much is left so we can plan (buy) accordingly? Customer Relations? The in-cabin TV channel?

Your In-cabin TV is your best bet. If any of your OBC coes from a TA, that may sometimes take up to two days to show up, although ours has always appeared on Embarkation day.
