Roulette!!

QT I will agree that I would always start with my $20 and then win that back and pocket it and play with the rest for hours...but now I hear there is a $5 min bet each time...whereas I would sometimes only play one number.....will that affect your odds?.....I have always played a certain series of numbers and if I see the board is playing them that is the one I pick to play with.......we have only once won enough to pay a cruise fare, well actually it paid both cruise fares and spending money...but it was once, mostly I figure $20 for an evening out is a good deal and I usually make it last hours too...sometimes winning sometimes losing.....so it is a good nights entertainment........my hubby likes to watch and when a big spender comes up betting everything....and starts winning he just follows him....scares me to death...but it works..........had a friend that lost all her money gave her a $5 chip and she followed a guy playing wildly and turned that $5 into $350 in minutes........and walked away.....see that is the trick.........know when to leave the table.

On our recent cruises the $5 minimum has been for outside bets (even odds). You could still bet $1 on the inside.

We cruised Carnival in Oct 09 and March 10 and the min at roulette was $5 on inside or outside.

I realize that the wheel or the ball has no memory, but the dealer does.

I look for the dealer that is throwing in an area. Split the table in half from #17 and play the half that is hitting.

If the dealer is all over the board, I will not play.

I box 4 numbers, 3 ways (cover 12 numbers), with $5 chips for $15 and win $40. It has worked for me on many cruises. It's not a high payout way to play, it's more like running a marathon and as long as your in the game it's fun and entertaining.

When the dealer changes, I cash and take a walk and have a beer.:D

I agree with you on what you've said about not playing necessarily for the high payout but playing for the long haul...slow and steady....I usually stay for the first few spins of a new dealer, but most times it has not proven profitable and I leave as well.

QT Baby Nurse: How many bets to you make on a spin? All the numbers showing? Numbers that have repeated?

tucker in texas

How many bets I make in each spin depends on how much money I'm up....the more money I'm up and the more my numbers are hitting, the more bets I'll make. When I first sit down at a table, I play very conservative, maybe only betting two $1 chips on each spin...usually on a corner of 4 numbers or a split. I believe in the "slow and steady" approach....I'm not going to bust the casino bank but I always come out ahead by the end of the cruise. :)

I have certain numbers that I like to play that have been "lucky" for me...so if I see those numbers have been hitting on the board, I'll sit and play. Once those numbers quit hitting, I cash in, take my profits and play again later.

One time I remember playing on the last night of the cruise. I was up about $600 over the course of the week. I went back to my cabin and realized that I still had a $5 chip in my pocket. Of course, not wanting that to go to waste, I went back to the casino and plopped it down on one of my "lucky" numbers straight up and it won! That was cool! :D

We take $100 and play four numbers (sons and grandsons birthdays) usually four spins. A couple years ago on Enchantment of the Seas I had a big night at blackjack and mistakenly (I had a big night of single malt scotch too) bet $25 on each number. Boom! First spin hits for $875. Color up time. In March on the Getaway my wife played $5 per number and hit two out of four spins. I guess the dealer wasn't a math major because after four spins we cashed out for $600+.

Had the most amazing run last night on the Indie. Not big amounts as I only put down about $8 at a time, but I reckon I got a (excuse my lingo!) direct hit or 50:50 hit about 10 times in 15 spins! Ended up turning $55 into $265. Then I walked away. Funny and fun.

Just for the fun of it (and a two buck loss), has anyone here ever bet a buck on each of the 38 numbers? Is it even possible to put that many bets down before the dealer calls no more bets?

They only pay 35 to 1 so if you bet $1 on all 38 numbers (including 0 and 00) then you will lose $2 every turn.

Yes, they noted that in their post.

Makes no sense to do that really, but hey, it's your money. Yes, you have enough time to put the chips down if you aren't slow about it.

If you were putting money down on all of the numbers and 0 and 00 the dealer will let you take 5 minutes if you wanted, it is a guaranteed 8% house win. The house edge is higher most of the time, but a guarantee is always better.

Not that it matters much but this would be a 3 unit loss, not 2.

Er No - a 2 unit loss every time. Win 35 + your original stake back = 36 return for a 38 chip outlay.

BTW - the house edge on American roulette is 5.26%. European roulette (with a single zero) is 2.7%.
