Canceled GSC 11/13/13

I wonder why NCL is cancelling that so often.

As said, it's the winds that make tendering dangerous or impossible. Now it is the hurricane season and winds can be a lot stronger and longer than "normally" - this is usually not a problem on itineraries outside hurricane season although of course it can happen year around.

We are in Florida right now and just got announced that the stop at GSC is cancelled...Third time it was canceled in a row for the Breakaway!

We are now due to dock at Nassau tomorrow at 1 pm.

Just checked weather for GSC for today 50% chance of rain 79deg & wind from the N at 22mph. You have everything against going there.

Enjoy Nassau, you'll hear Senor`Frogs hopping tonight.

Happy Cruising

I remember that...we are hoping to be able to book the sunset cruise but can't find the info online via our smartphones...

It sucks as our party of 29 people have had cabanas booked since they were made available and we were all really looking forward to this.

I know the feeling. We also booked a cabana and didn't get to GSC, that was my only beach day and I never even set foot on a beach on our cruise last week.

Although we enjoyed the cruise, being on the ship for 5 sea days was NOT fun. We don't like towel folding classes or martini tastings and found ourselves bored in the casino.

Next year we are flying further south and going to ports we know will be warm.

NCL needs to change up the PC, GSC, Nassau itinerary. GSC is the highlight of the trip, without it and the cruise has nothing else to offer. The pool decks were crazy busy when and if we got a nice day and Nassau is the pits.

Passed GSC a little while ago. Looks like the Royal ship is giving it go.

When we circled GSC last week, I saw two ships at their own private island, the other was a Disney ship. It was so sad, beautiful sunny day but we couldn't stop because of the whitecaps that I see you are experiencing also. :(

Last week what was annoying they announced about 12 hours before docking there (while still in FL). Weather is changing all the time, so captain could just get close to GSC before making decision. As a matter of fact weather/ocean was great all the way from FL to Bahamas. I understand it’s a hassle to tender everyone + crew and food . Also there is no obligation to the passenger. Do not plan the cruise just to visit private island.

Sorry to hear about the cancellation - esp. since the pattern doesn't look good for us for next week.

But I'm not surprised - of the 6-7 times we've been scheduled for GSC we've made it ashore 3 times. And one of these times they cut the day very short and called everyone back to the ship because wind/waves picked up suddenly. When we tendered back, several people were sick and it took almost 15 minutes to come abreast of the ship and tie up (and we weren't alone every tender took forever to approach and tie up). :(

I hope you have a great bit of extra time in Nassau; the sunset cruise sounds like a great idea. (I'll keep it in mind for next week!)

For anyone that was on the breakaway when it missed GSC, when did they do the fireworks? All the dailies I have read for this itinerary had them on Wednesday night which is when you would typically be in GSC.

They were changed from Wednesday's cancelled GSC port stop to Friday night at 9:45 pm.

That is great to hear, I was nervous that maybe they got cancelled as well. I am heading out on the breakaway on the 17th. Fingers crossed we make it to GSC!!!

if we are re-routed to Nassau, what is there to do? I understand there are a lot of expensive options but since I did not plan to spend a lot of money at GSC if at all I would want something free or inexpensive at Nassau.

Depends what time you get there. People were able to leave the ship around 5 pm and docking around 3.30 pm. But most of the shops close at 6 pm. Also it gets dark around 7 pm. You can take taxi to Atlantis and have dinner there . I heard you can get to DIG for free after 8 pm. We stayed on the ship that evening. I did ropes with no lines. Also it was pretty to be on the top during sundown . The next day in Nassau we had schedule ship tour.

That may be the worst itinerary that NCL offers. Just my opinion though. I would still sail it just for the ship experience.

We agree. We are lookng to take another cruise this coming summer, but the only cruises out of NY (we live about 30 min from ship) are this stinky itinerary or Bermuda. After doing the Florida run 3 times, even the experience and pleasure of being on the ship doesn't cut it. Did Bermuda last year.

Really wish they would mix up the itineraries they have.

Why can't they do an northern run in the summer??

Safe sailing

If you are looking for a beach, Junkanoo is free and within walking distance. Go out the terminal building, past straw market, past Senor Frogs, Past the hotel and it is there. Maybe a 10 minute walk. The nicest beach, no, but doable and there are huts around there selling drinks.

I posted this photo on another thread, but for those of you on the Breakaway who were diverted to Nassau on Wed., Nov. 6, here's your ship in port that afternoon next to the Sky (I took this from the Celebrity Infinity as we pulled away). It was interesting to see the Breakaway up close and personal when she docked (drawing cheers from the folks on the Sky across the way).
