So I did something stupid... LOL

I had the topic come up at a table in the casino before. I told them I had heard midship and low was the best place. The dealer gave me a "what do you know you don't live here" kind of look and told them it was aft.

Maybe as far as crew quarters the best ones are in the back? Not for not getting sea sick, because why would you work on a ship if that bothered you, but for real estate wise down there. Not sure what they meant.

Midship is definitely most stable. My SIL can feel it walking towards the back once she gets to a certain point and has to turn back around. It was only her second cruise (first one being when she stayed in 2473 and was throwing up all night until she could buy some Sea Bands the next day). Second cruise they were midship and I was aft. She came to my room once and that was it. Had zero issues in her cabin 1347. I was in 1452. Down low, midship is the best.

The question asked was what is the best area to be in for the least amount of motion or whatever. The dealer didn't necessarily say he got sick.

Which is midship, down low. Just a few articles. There are many.

I suffer from motion sickness and take a bonine daily while cruising.
Just wanted to say, both my daughters get real sick cruising from the motion, they take ginger pills and have no problems! They get motion sickness on any size boat or ship, long car rides, and the ginger pills have worked so well the are addicted to cruising now to hehehe!

I don't think that was stupid at all. I think it was a wonderful, kind thing to do.

I have had a cabin under the MDR. No noise at all. They are carpeted and when dinner is over, it's really over.

Enjoy!

That is what I was hoping to hear!! We shall see!! Thanks!!!

We enjoy the aft cabins, although my wife is prone to sea sickness. On the positive side there is very little traffic back there so it is quite peaceful. You will definitely feel vibration in and out of port, but it serves as our alarm clock when arriving in port. We did not experience much noise from the dining room. There is more motion there than mid ship, but much of our time is spent outside of the cabin and a Bonine dosage before dinner usually would have my wife very ready for bed, so she slept well. Enjoy your cruise.

Seconding the recommendation of using ginger! I've taken to bringing candied/crystalized ginger on all my trips. It's delicious in my favorite drinks and makes me incredibly popular with folks who are seasick or hungover. If you don't like the taste, or don't want the sugar, I'm certain pills would be just as effective =)

I take a Bonine every night before bed while on a cruise, so I should be fine then!! Thanks!!!

I was speaking from experience. Maybe you spoke to a agent who did not want to do their job. Anyway good luck !

No...people are offering good advice. To claim you can book a GTY and then swap cabins until you find one you like is erroneous.

Let me start this by saying its my OWN DUMB FAULT... LOL.

My hubby turns 60 in January and I asked him what he wanted for his birthday. Of course he said he wanted a cruise!! We already have one booked for May, so I looked to find an inexpensive one in January and I found one on the Triumph out of NOLA!! I went the cheapest route possible and took a chance and let them pick our cabin :D. (Let me stop here and tell you that I suffer from motion sickness and take a bonine daily while cruising. I usually pick a cabin in the middle of the ship.)

Well, my roll of the dice did not pay off... hahaha!! They assigned us cabin 2463. This cabin is on the aft end of the ship AND is under the dining room.

So, besides living on bonine for the entire trip, I have never been under a dining room. Can someone share with me what we may experience?

Let the teasing begin!!! :'):'):')

As an experienced cruiser and someone that suffers severely from motion sickness (I get sick in the back seat of a car!), may I suggest you try SeaBands instead of taking the medication? I used to have to LIVE on Sea Sickness Medication when we cruised until my husband found these for me. Don't know why they work, but OH MY GOSH they do!

I can take 10 hour flights, I have been on ships rocking so bad that 1/2 the people on the boat were green and getting sick and I am perfectly fine. The nice thing is you just put one on and you are done. Wear it non-stop. If it is a little bad, I wear one, if it is really bad I wear two. The other nice thing is unlike medication if you start feeling sick and then slip these on within 10-15 minutes you are fine. Sometimes by the time you feel it is too late for medicine and you just throw it back up. And ZERO side effects like you can get from medicine.

We snorkle/snuba/dive and I wear them the whole time we are on the little boats bobbing around too and no issues.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND these. They are supposed to work for morning sickness to!

We're on the same cruise and will be celebrating my sister's 71st birthday on January 16th. If we run into each other we'll have to get together for a drink to celebrate their birthdays. We're in cabin 8216.

We would love that!!! Tell your sister Happy Birthday from us!!

I think you are boarding as we are getting off. We are on the cruise leaving 1/11 and returning 1/15. I think you are boarding 1/15. Sorry we will miss you!!

I may have to try this. I have started to become found of the taste of ginger, in small amounts, but it took me a while to get there. Bonnine and Dramamine make me so drowsy- even the non-drowsy kind taken at bedtime. I just feel exhausted all the time. Last cruise I went without any meds and I did okay. I am not sure if I have gotten used to it, or if it was all in my head to begin with. Or maybe the seas were just calmer (it was May and a big ship). We were aft that time.

I really did not notice that much difference in movement between aft and mid ship. When we were on lower decks I have noticed some vibration, usually when going into/out of port.

We once had one of those cabins in the front of the ship- the inside with a window. I am not sure if it was the location, time of year (February) or both, but I was miserable. If I was in my room, I had to be laying down. Sitting, standing and walking made me dizzy. I was okay in public areas, but my room not so much. Very bumpy. Felt like being in the bed of a pick up truck on a gravel road- going fast.

Aft is my preferred location now. Its more convenient to things IMO and a bit cheaper than mid ship.

I love reading about all the different ways people deal with the motion issue. I for one am an experienced cruiser who has used the patch (scopolamine) for 19 years and have had amazing success (not for everyone) but the oral meds never helped me enough.

I love the aft location because the side-to-side motion is like rocking in a cradle for me. I dislike the front of the ship because of the up-and-down motion, which I can tolerate while on the patch but just don't ever feel 100%.

So, definitely will feel motion but you might find that you like it! especially for sleeping!!!

I have suffered from motion sickness all of my life. I would get sick driving 30 minutes down the road as a child... lol. Bonine is wonderful and helps me a great deal. Only twice has it not been enough and both times we were in the middle of some rough seas. I get sick when there is a lot of rocking (like if we are high up or if we are bobbing up and down). I usually take a pill at night around 830 or so and by the time I go to bed, I sleep really good and don't usually suffer too many side effects during the day.

I am looking forward to this aft cabin. :D

So I am right there with you! I suffered most of my life, getting sick if I didn't drive, or riding on airplanes, etc. The very first time I went on a cruise (1998) I got on the ship midday and after a few hours turned to my husband and said that I was feeling so great I would try it without the patch - totally forgetting that the ship hadn't started moving yet,lol So that night I woke at around 4am feeling really, really bad. I put on a patch but it took about 4 hours to fully kick in so I sat on our balcony for four hours trying not to get sick, horrible! Now I take no chances and just put it on when I board during the afternoon. I have NEVER felt sick since, even on the worst of sailings, including during hurricane Wilma when it was hard just to remain standing in the hallways and the food venues were all empty!!!

So, not everyone likes the patch, either they don't like the feeling, or that you're not supposed to drink, (not too much anyway, haha) but I like it, it lets me enjoy the feeling of the motion of the ship without feeling sick. I also sleep really well with it. Bonine is loved by most, including my husband who had to use it once so you're in good company!

I booked a similar room a few cruises ago. It was first and last time booking a cabin near the engine. After not sleeping the first day, I went to guest services and was lucky enough to change from a port hole to mid lower interior. Lower aft rooms worst rooms on the ship.

What Carnival ship has portholes in aft cabins?

Oops. Ment Windows. It was one of those extra big corner rooms with 2 big windows.

Didn’t mind the motion, but the vibrations from the engine were unbearable.

2470/2473 on Conquest Class ships are my favorite. Love the extra space and the vibration and movement but I agree it’s not for everyone. It was so loud I gave up trying to watch tv one night. You either love it or hate it. There’s no in between.

Not even close. Midship is the best. Aft “fishtails” and definitely has much more motion than midship. Yes forward can have the up and down when really rough, but aft for sure has movement. You feel hardly anything midship, not so true for either end of the ship. The ship still goes up and down. Think of a teeter tauter.

Ever been in the aft dining room when things aren’t exactly smooth? Quite a few times people in my party were getting motion sickness. You still feel it down low as well.

Below the dining room you won’t hear any tables or cleaning equipment as it’s carpeted back there.

We all have different experiences and preferences. I had a room under the dining room for 12 days and did get wakened numerous times with heavy thuds from above. The back of the ship fishtailing? That's from to many DOD's...Mid-ship? To many loud talking drunks walking past your cabin after 1AM.

Maybe you weren’t under a carpeted area. 2470/2473 are directly under the MDR and I never heard a peep any of the 23 days I stayed there. Yep, “fish tailing” as in back and forth movement. It can be very pronounced when going at a high speed and/or when the water is rough. Don’t really drink, so it definitely wasn’t me.

Aft is my preference as well one reason being because of the drunks in the hall as you mentioned. With all the noise from the engines and being at a dead end, I don’t hear a peep in the hallway back there. I am an extremely light sleeper and any sudden noise startles me awake and I’m up for good. However it’s a fact that midship is the most stable.
